My wife and I have had the LG front loaders for 3 years now and couldn't be happier. The washer is ridiculously quite, and the dryer is much quieter than any other I have ever heard. They both do a great job, and look really nice too, in case you have to put them in plain sight.

The high efficiency soap can be found just about anywhere so that shouldn't be a concern.

I bought my wife for her birthday a couple years ago the Sears frontloading Kenmore Elite washer and gas drier w/5yr warrenty. She absolutely loves them and would never give them up. She has never got the laundry done faster the washer spins so fast that they are nearly dry when she transfers everything into the drier. The gas bill went down after we started using the set and while we have well water the pump dosen't run nearly as much (so I can only guess the water bill would go down also). Not to mention that for me buying from Sears for appliances is a no brainer. Get the stands for them also they are worth the extra money for the hieght and storage they provide.

    Good luck

She wasn't expecting them both for her birthday we only needed one to replace the one we had going bad the extra suprise for her was when both arrived so they would match. She's funny that way she likes things like that for those times (birthday's, christmas, anniversery) one year she got a new tractor for cutting the front lawn for an anniversery gift (I take care of the back) it's what she wanted so she got it. for me I always want things for HT, hunting or shooting Boy are her pryorities mixed up:D :D . I see she is now eyeballing the top loading dish washer at Lowes, humm. In exchange when I feel the need to try something different in the HT she dosen't question that much as to "why" or "for what" like she use too.

So I ended up buying this: LG WM2277H

Got it at Best Buy, salesman let me use a 10% Home Depot coupon (I lied and said Home Depot had it for the same price :p ), free delivery and haul away. I also just found out the city will give me $100 rebate for buying a high effeciency model so it turned out to be a great deal. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Looks like a nice washer. If you don't mind disclosing, what did ya end up paying for it, not including the city rebate? I'm going to be in the maket real soon for a frontloader.

Out the door including tax (8.25%) and ~$30 for new hoses $906. Delivery/Haul-Away was free.

$899 price in-store minus 10%. I had to sign up for a Best Buy credit card though, since the Home Depot coupon was for use with a HD credit card. I didn't mind too much though, 18 months same as cash financing.

We bought a new Maytag today, from Lowes. Ours finally starting to show signs of failure. The spin cycle was not completely drying the clothes so I'd have to run a second spin cycle often and the water shut-offs weren't completely closing so water was dripping inside the machine. We also had some motor issues several years ago so it was time to go.

We bought another Maytag, the Centennial edition with commercial technology (supposedly all metal industrial parts inside) for $599. We had a 10% off Lowes coupon and got a $35 rebate from Edison.

These new machines have no center ajitator which is quite nice. I love the top loads and have not heard one good thing from friends or family on front loaders so I'm still avoiding those. Monthly cleanings due to mold is enough to keep me away from front loaders.

One thing I will never do is spend a ton of money on top of the line washer's and dryer's, a waste of money. All it has to do is clean my clothes so the least expensive ones fit the need. I don't need a bunch of fancy buttons and controls that make it look like the bridge of the Enterprise. Seriously, why? All it needs to do is clean my clothes.

^ Congrats on the purchase. I have front loader machines and they are quite good. No problems with mold or anything. The only thing I did have an issue with was F21, which was a drainage error code. This was easily fixed by me removing the bottom panel and removing a sock stuck in the drain system. Other than that, buttons are cool, makes doing laundry a tad more fun, and so on. Both washer and dryer have the nice pedestals and are from Whirlpool.

Congrats Ron, bought the exact same one, from the exact same place, except a small dent on the bottom brought the price down to 250.

From my experience, here's what I found out, if you use a powder detergent, you have to use the 2nd rinse cycle or all the detergent doesn't come off the clothes. Thus, no water savings. It automatically fills to a certain level depending on the amount of clothes in it, which is fine, but it never seems to be enough. Also,if the machine starts washing and you lift the lid to throw in that extra sock you just found, it automatically fills all the way up with water. Aggravating. Another feature that is missing is no hot or warm temp rinse cycle, everything is cold on the rinse.

Ya know, I love all the water saving features the modern machines have, but here's the ticket, how about letting me decide what temp to rinse at, what level of water to use. Give me options, and let me decide which ones pertain to my individual needs, and those will be the ones I use. If the options aren't there, I can't use them. It's like all of a sudden the public is deemed too stupid to make these decisions......that we have been making since the damn things were invented.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the tips Tony. She's in the garage and I'll get her up and running tomorrow. I don't mind the temp control issues. I wash most everything on cold other than whites.

The only downfall I can find is that I can't figure out a way to soak my clothes. When turned off, the water drains down.

My Whirlpool has a Pre Soak feature. It just roles the load over every once in a while. You can also select the soil level. If you put it on Heavy it will add time to the wash cycle.

do most of the front loaders have reversible doors? they all seem to open from the right side, however, my washer sits on the right so I'd prefer it to open from the left.

Most Dryers Do. You can take it off and put it on the other side. The wash machine is fixed because it has an electric lock mechanism that keeps the door shut while there is water in it.

I have a matching Whirlpool Duet set. All 3 washing machines from the duet series are the highest rated by consumer reports. They all score 87 points out of 100. They are not consumer reports best buy's due to their price though.

I have the Whirlpool Duet WFW95HEX it is the middle one of the series. It has steam but not the LCD screen that the higher end WFW97HEX has. The 97 can also use a 6x concentrated soap. You load this small container up and it automaticly despences the correct amount of soap. You can do 6 loads before you need to refile the container. The WFW94HEX is the bottom of the duet series. It is the same washer as mine - the steam feature.

Retail on the washers are $1500, $1200, and $1000. We got the WFW95HEX ($1200) retail for $899 from our local appliance sale. The dryer was the same price too. We could have gotten the dryer cheaper from Best Buy but we decided to just buy them as a set from the appliance store.

The dryer we have is also the middle of the duet series. WED95HEX. It is a steam dryer as well. This feature is nice because it has a built in reduce static mode and a wrinkle shield mode. At the end of the cycle it will mist water on the cloths. Then tumble for a while. It slighty dampens the cloths so they dont have static and so they dont wrinkle as easy.

We have ours stacked. We had room for them side by side. If we stacked them then we could get a 7 cubic foot deep freeze where they other one would have set.

All you have to do is keep the door cracked so it dries out or use it enough that mold doesnt grow.
