Ok, so I was bored last weekend and I grabbed my dad's inexpensive turntable out of the living room and hooked it up and shoved it into the entertainment stand (he rarely uses it so he doesn't care) but turned it one and I grabbed "Three Dog Night" out of his collection and popped it on and I had an epiphany......maybe not all old stuff is bad....lol, but I really enjoy the sound, its warm and friendly, a lot better then cold Mp3 or FLAC. But now for the questions, one: where do I get some good Vinyls, such as Metallica and other hard rock and metal, two: what are some good hard rock and metal that were around in the time of Vinyls, and three: How do I clean these, they haven't been used in forever and are incredibly dusty. Thanks mucho

There is alot of vinyl out there, dude. You just have to look.

Try Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Ted Nugent, Van Halen... The list can go on for ever...

Try opening your mind to other music, too. You'd be suprised, there is some good **** out there.

Yard sales, flea markets, thrift shops etc. etc. Used music stores as well but will pay a little more. Just picked up about 5 classic Dylan early albums for about $5 total. "No one" wants them any more so the ones that do can score frequently. Got to get out and look though.

When I was in college, I was a DJ at my college radio station. Since the station has no budget, us "volunteer DJs" had to bring in our own record collection to play. And used records was how I learn about music from various genres. Going through the used record bins, "the hunt" if you will, is part of the fun.

I'd think classic rock would be easy to find on vinyl. Heck, many new rock releases are still issued on vinyl nowadays. As for cleaning, I would looking into something like Allsop's Orbitrac system as a minimum.

Quite a bit of new vinyl can be found at the regular outlets. Such as Amazon, Circuit City, Virgin, TowerRecords.com. Just look up some of the Metallica (or other) albums that you like and look on the page to see if there is a link to other formats. If you don't find it on one site try another. They don't all stock the same titles.

Another good way to determine if an album was pressed to vinyl is to look it up on www.allmusic.com at the bottom of the page you will find a list of the dates and formats an album was released.

Case in point. Estate sale today. Lots of older albums but only one that caught that my eye was excellent condition 1962 Johnny Cash "Blood Sweat and Tears" album. Never heard it before but its kinda neat. Cost me 50 cents.

I did one estate sale so far in my life. A box full of crap just like Codders, except for the unopened John Lennon "Double Fantasy". Holding onto that for the day I finally do ebay for the first time. Then I'm going to loose all the other mint Beatles rarities, and pristine Led Zeps and Pink Floyds I've been hoarding.

It's a special introductory price. I like the 'I can't figure out how to post it" line. If I was asking those ridiculous prices, I'd be gagging too. Especially if I didn't have the requisite 25 posts.
