Just curious, how do you all have your bass and treble set on your AVR's?
Chime in.
Mine are flat right now.

A wise man on this forum once challenged everybody to take The Tone Control Challenge...
set 'em flat and forget about them for a week. Chances are, you will forget about them forever.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
Flat. However, I was a treble junkie before I joined this forum.

After hooking up my first Polk's (with the fresh new Polk scent) treble and bass controls were tested and quickly went to 0. It's been so long I forgot about those words.

Actually, I lied....
I crank the treble to +11 and send all power to the tweeters. Eff a midrange or bass. When cats heads explode and oceans begin to boil, I know my work here is done...I never had it like this where I grew up. Tone controls??? .
My preamp is so cheap, it didn't even include them?!? Man, I got ripped off LOL

Looks like my only claim to fame will be as the Master of tone control....I am a true tone-control junkie. I've got a Parametric EQ for my main SRS, a Parametric EQ for the secondary 2.3tl's, a graphic EQ for the side surrounds, a graphic EQ for the rear surrounds, and heck, I've even got a graphic EQ for center channel....and did I mention that my pre-pro has tone controls?
At some point, I'm going to use this Sprectrum Analyzer software I have and my SPL meter and spend about a month to try and calibrate all this stuff. ..LOL.Amplifiers: 1-SAE Mark IV, 4-SAE 2400, 1-SAE 2500, 2-SAE 2600, 1-Buttkicker BKA 1000N w/2-tactile transducers. Sources: Sony BDP CX7000es, Sony CX300/CX400/CX450/CX455, SAE 8000 tuner, Akai 4000D R2R, Technics 1100A TT, Epson 8500UB with Carada 100". Speakers:Polk SDA SRS, 3.1TL, FXi5, FXi3, 2-SVS 20-29, Yamaha, SVS center sub. Power:2-Monster HTS3500, Furman M-8D & RR16 Plus. 2-SAE 4000 X-overs, SAE 5000a noise reduction, MSB Link DAC III, MSB Powerbase, Behringer 2496, Monarchy DIP 24/96. -

Interesting. I'm guessing there are other "tone control" tweakers out there who want to stay in the closet because they're afraid of being called out for audio blasphemy. The unspoken rule is that it's acceptable to tweak the tone of your sub with a spectrum analyzer because of "room acoustics" Room acoustics will also plague your overall sound quality. Why not tweak the tone in a room that reverbs or is stone dead? In some cases it may be the only way to salvage some decent sound in a room with no degrees of freedom for acoustic treatments, speaker placement, etc.
I personally have my main system flat. However, in my vintage system I have the "Loudness" button switched on:eek:Carl -

If you want to include equalizer settings, this is what I have my L/R main set to:
