For Sale, for funding of an upcoming aquisition.

Bozak Symphonies - These things are awesome speakers, plain and simple. Big (8 tweeter array, a 6 1/2 inch mid and 2 12" woofers per channel). Very warm sounding. If your gonna try Bozak, might as well go big :) These things are old, and look accordingly. there about a 6 on the agon scal, some marks on the cabs, and the bases are rough, but functional. cabs are airtight, and the speakers are fully functional.

I had a blast with these. They aounded awesome on a Radii MMP-M8 amp as well as the Baby amp (see below) 8 watts for both. and sounded stunning on the Anthem Amp 1 at 40 watts of tube power. in other words, very tube friendly. Kills me to sell these, but its gotta be done.

]***********SOLD***********. 165 lbs a piece, dont even think of shipping!!!! No speaker for less that 900 new or used will touch these in pure shock and awe factor.

Sophia Electric Baby Amp - 10 watts push pull. flat out the sweetest 10 watts I ever laid ears on. can't discount the looks cool as hell factor either. pictures will follow. Last I looked (at polkfest) there no blemishes or issues, but i will certainly double check. Tubes will be included, but since they take VERY rare russian tubes (cant remember the numbers, I'll look it up though), I would suggest ordering a spare pair from Sophia (50.00 ish) if you think of keeping this thinglong term.

It has a volume pot on the front, making running this thing sans preamp a snap (this is what I did when I ran them on the Bozaks). This is a good time to mention how friggin sweet this amp sounded on the Bozak's, ironic I'm selling them both together eh? :D350.00 shipped (what I paid, If I double check and find I paid a little less, I will reduce the price. its less than I've seen on the gon and such though. If I had a smaller room for this, I wouldnt think of parting with it.

pics to follow

Is this the Sophia amp you are talking about?

    babyfront.jpg

    If so, here's a link:

    http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/sophia_baby_e.html

Also, the amp resembles an older Heathkit design, AA-32 I think it was. It was an integrated amplifier pushing about 20 watts per channel. It had a similar input and output circuit design. Tried and true design and a good way to illustrate how the quality of components in a piece of gear can make a world of difference.

The Bozaks are pretty sensitive IIRC so small power tube amps will make them shine. They won't get foundation shatteringly loud but they will rock pretty well. With a fine example like that Sophia amp, the pair would be an excellent foray into the tube world. Add an old AR turntable of reasonable quality and you'd have a vinyl rig to die for for less than 1K. An excellent starter system that could compete with stuff out there now costing 5-10 times as much IMO.

Not to undercut the ad here but if you want the Bozaks but can't afford the Sophia too, here is a spectacular little kit for half the price.

    http://www.tubesandmore.com/scripts/foxweb.dll/moreinfo@d:/dfs/elevclients/cemirror/ELEVATOR.FXP?item=K-502

It's from Antique Electronics Supply: http://www.tubesandmore.com/

It's a simple little kit that is relativly easy to assemble. I think AES will even assemble it for you for an extra fee. The kit is pretty popular and is found in alot of places. It was originally designed by George Fathauer and AES has the cheapest costing kit like it I have seen yet. It uses 11BM8's and is an impressive little 8W x 2 amp with a gain control (listed as a volume control). It would do good on those Bozaks also and with a little crafty work in building an enclosure, it's be a snazzy little vinyl rig too.

Anyhow, somebody jump on this, for the performance, it's a screaming deal.

BTW, some links to Sophia Electric:
    Home Page: http://www.sophiaelectric.com/
    S.E.T. Music Baby Amplifier: http://www.sophiaelectric.com/pages/amp/ampbaby.htm

I think they also sell replacement tubes for all of thier gear too. If the prices on the site are correct, they won't hurt the checkbook too much either.

These guys are out of Washington D.C. and every review I've ever seen of thier gear has been nothing short of sparkling.

If they were Concert Grands and a little closer I might be on it. No room, but I can always sleep in the yard.

if they were the concert grands, you would be paying close to 2 grand for em. :D

I;d love to hear em, but I dont think they would be worth 4x what these are. the concert grands are rarer, hence the price disparity I think.

It used to be easier to get Concert Grands, at one point I saw some on eBay unsold at $300. Then people started trashing the cabinets and selling the drivers. What a waste.

the more efficient the better. any speaker over 90 db is workable. 92db is bettr. the bozaks are 94 and go pretty loud in volume. if I were looking for a speaker, I would goal for at least 92db.

I believe the SDA-1B was about 92 db efficient if I remember correctly, if I still owned them, I would give them a shot on the baby, after making sure it is common ground of course, of which I'm not sure.

the sophia sounds pretty damn good on my Rogers LS-6, so I would wager to say smaller british monitors would be a way to go. not loud, but sound remarkably well. there is a reason why I say these are the sweetest 10 wpc I ever laid ears on.

actually, I have them powering the Bozaks right now in prep for a demo for the purchaser (who will be at my house friday evening.) just got done listening to them for about 1 and a half hours. NICE! Maybe I can convince the buyer to keep the sophia and the bozaks together :D

simply, your not going to get concert level sound on any speaker, except maybe klipsch heritage line speaks, but what volume it does, it does damn well. Like I said, if I had a small listening room, I would probably keep this thing forever.
