If anyone knows how does the X BOX HD player compare with other HD-DVD players like Toshiba and RCa for movies and music? How can you get
DTS through this machine if hooked up to a receiver?

I will just wait for the HDMI model to come out. I wonder what the price on it will be.

My list of things to buy is:

    New front speakers+TV
    SVS 10
    HD X BOX 360 or HD-Dvd player
    New Pioneer Elite Receiver

HT, make your first purchase among those the sub. Thats what I would do.

jhermance, can you cite or reference anywhere that says they are going to come out with a unit with HDMI.

As of right now Microsoft has no plans to release an HDMI. Also one thing you have to be aware of that all audio that is played back from the drive is Dolby Digital, regardless of the format you chose on the disc. Since all the audio and video is processed via software on the 360 it is decoded and then re-encoded to DD5.1. Fortunately since this is all software based there is room for improvement via updates.

Broadcom just announced release of their dual Blu-Ray/HD-DVD chip. I'd wait for those drives to start rolling out in ~6 months unless you're sure one format is going to fail.

I've used the Samsung Blu-Ray and Toshiba HD-DVD players at work, and couldn't say I'd buy either at this point. They're both extremely slow booting up/loading/menus, and build quality doesn't seem to match the price tag.

I read reviews of the X-Box HD-Dvd and it is usually to be very quick.

It is quick, discs only take a matter of seconds to start up from the dashboard.
