Amp Problems

Just received an Outlaw 750 amp that I purchased on Ebay. I've hooked it up and get nothing but a low hum in my speakers. Using brand new Monster THX RCA cables, double checked with older cables that I know work. Put in a new fuse. Speaker wires have banana plugs - kinda hard to screw them up. They work fine with AVR. My two channel amp works fine with pre outs - no problem there. I have the 12V mini-plug trigger operating correctly. The amp turns on, the light comes on but nothing happens. Does anyone have an idea? The seller's rating is 100% positive over 46 sales. He responded to my email saying that he used the amp every day up to a month ago and double checked it when it went in the box. He mentioned something about checking the bridging, don't know what he's referring to. I do have the amp plugged into a different wall socket than the AVR/DVD. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I am seriously bummed and slightly pissed. I want to do everything I can reasonably before trashing the seller's 100% rating. And I do have a service call into Outlaw.

Do you have to turn on the prouts via the OSD for your AVR?

There may be a switch on the rear panel to allow the amps two channels to be bridged.Make sure it is not in that mode.
Maybe the input switch (rear panel) is set to the balanced XLR inputs instead of unbalanced RCA.

No switch on the back and the front right and left preouts are functioning with the older amp. But thanks.:(

It's possible that the fuse(s) may be the problem. Opening the Amp is not heart surgery, take a few screws out and pop the top.

If the internal fuses are blown would he still be getting a "pilot" light, or "hum" to the speakers?

I don't know, but it ain't gonna kill a bunch of nuns and orphans if he opens it up and takes a peek.

Have you tried running the amp and AVR without the trigger cable installed?

    Yes...

But opening the amp might kill any warranty at all if Outlaw will even allow it?

I don't doubt you, sounds like you know how to connect an amp to me. I hate to tell you this, but I think he shafted you?

You can try disconnecting everything and try it all over again, you might come across a problem?

Dude! Go back and re-read the manual. If voiding the warranty was a concern they damn well wouldn't tell you how to replace the fuse or that if it continues to fail.....

POP THE TOP FOR THE LOVE OF GAWD!!!!!

J/K;) ...go have a look, you won't void the warranty.

Bypass the AVR. Run directly into the amp with a source. It will be loud if it works, but you will know if the preamp inputs are active.

id pop the top as well to see if anything obvious is wong (probably wont see anything but cant hurt to look). i second the idea of running a source directly into the outlaw (use an ipod or something so you can lower the volume down before playing since the amp will be running at full). im already guessing you double checked this but jsut in case, make sure that your speakers are correctly plugged in.

Opened the case last night - all the metal has been ripped away from every one of the RCA jacks, no input. Anyone want to buy a nice amp for $470. This is the first time I've ever bought used equipment and it will be the last.

Has the seller responded to any of your e-mails? Probably not...

What do you mean the metal has been ripped away?? Can you post pics, I'm curious to see what is wrong?

I'm sure you left neg feedback, did you try contacted the seller, Ebay, PayPal, about getting your money back?

sounds like a basic ground loop issue. Have you tried using a cheater plug to see if the hum goes away? (a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter)

Just read your post about the metal being ripped away from the unit inside. Can you post a few pics? Outlaw has a transferable warrantee, have you tried calling them or sending them pics to see what they have to say?

Steve with Outlaw has been working with me on it, the amp is out of warranty. I am sending him pics tonight and will post them here. He is not sure its worth putting more money into a 6-7 year old amp. I will begin a paypal claim tonight. I posted negative feedback and was looking for a response to my emails only to find out the seller is no longer a registered member of ebay. Smells kinda fishy don't it?

I found the sale and it appears that he's got a good feed back as a buyer but he's only sold 2 items.

Guy's, you really need to look more closely at Ebay sales and buyer info.

    Marcinko7,
Did you pay with a credit card?

I will hold off on a formal complaint hopefully this will go away. Meanwhile the LSI's wake me up in the middle of the night moaning MORE JUICE...MORE JUICE. Please ignore the cable mgmt. Somebody dropped that amp, and they dropped it pretty freakin' hard to do that much damage. I think the seller has a claim against the shipper based on the pics. Was it double boxed?

How was the box when you got it form FedEx??

Like Frank said.... Looks like they played football with it! That amp was thrown across the truck a few to many times. Damn that sucks, nice to see the seller helping you out. Good Luck.

Look at the poor little kitty kat, he looks a little upset too!;)

Looks like a LOT of chassis flex occurred. Other than bad handling, I don't know what else would cause that!
I got a receiver that was all twisted one time. Not just dropped, but deformed. Shame.
It could be fixed. The RCA's would have to be changed out to solder panel mount, and use good wire to jumper it back to the board inputs. How do the
5 way binding post connections look?
