Yesterday on epay, an auction for a vintage pair of AR-1 speakers ended at $3,050, with the speakers looking like they're headed across the Pacific. With Pioneer receivers going for over a grand, and other examples like this, where is it going to end?

Across the Pacific they are (can be) crazy for anything vintage, audio or not. I used to play alot of tennis. Back in HS I had to have this ultra cool racket. Back then it retailed for $299 (early 80's). By todays standard the 90 square inch head is very small. It's been in the closet for close to 20 years.

Put it on ebay knowing it's vintage and somewhat rare thinking if I got $50 for it I was doing well. It sold for $166.50 to someone across the Pacific. More than I ever thought I'd get for a tennis racket that's been in the closet and is outdated by today's standards.

Crazy $hit if you ask me.

80% of all the vintage gear I sell goes to the land of the rising sun, or one of their neighbors.

I'd rather get a pair that didn't have bullet holes or crack pipe burns on them Pearsall.

AR-2's are not nearly as collectible as the AR-1's Wallstreet.

The 2ax's are collectible in my opinion, and that pair appears to be in very nice shape. Just have to watch out for those tweeter level controls in the back. They may need some attention sooner or later if they don't already. The woofs should have fabric surrounds and not foam. Nice speakers.

Damn!... My dad has a pair of the AR-1's. At one point my mom try to talk him into turning the cabinets into planters. I think he hid them in the basement after that.
