Hi guys i just got some SDA 2B's i am going to be running them with a Dynaco ST70 tube amp. I was thinking about a McIntosh C28 preamp to go with i was wondering what you guys think as far as a preamp to go with that amp and speakers. Prefer something with a Phono input as i use a record player as well capability for MM and MC cartridges would be nice as well. So any suggestions would be great.

If you enjoy working with a soldering iron, and would like to keep the Dynaco vibe going strong, I'd suggest this:

You can find a good PAS-3 or 3X on eBay or Audiogon for +/- $200 and redo it with the AVA mods, for a total cost of around $600. That's one hell of a good price point for a highly rated pre with line and phono (MM) capabilities. A good step-up transformer will give you MC for less than $100 extra.
Good luck! -
I have a C-28 and I think it's pretty mediocre. No MC support, either.
The Van Alstine modified PAS would be a better choice for me (but that's just me).

Both of the above posts nailed it!

Here's a PAS on Audiogon near me. The guy seems unclear as to what he has. From the looks of the pics, and the balance and tone control shunting, it looks like a 3-X that has been totally recapped on both boards and has the SDS power supply mod. Might be a good place to start your journey:
