Proof that if you wait long enough, you CAN find what you want.

Enter LS-90's in rosewood laminate. It's good to have some 'big' Polks back in the house. I've got a Signet 15" subwoofer bringing in the very very bottom, crossed over at 35Hz, and the gain just about dialed in. First gen trilam sounds pretty friggin decent with good electronics. I realize why Polk chose to re-do this series, with an 'i' designation. Great Heredity here boys and girls.

I can't stop listening long enough to even dust them off. John Mayer is IN the room. Can you dig it?

    My first Polks were LS-70's in rosewood. I still hate that I sold them. I would love to get a pair of 90's. When you decide to sell them if you will ship I would love to be first in line :)

    Yes sir it is. This is the 'base' for the whole house audio rig. 4 zones, this room being one, the front living room (ht also), master bedroom, and back patio.

    Ran all the wire while I had the place built.

    As far as big Polks go, the 90s are far more forgiving of placement than any of the biggest RTA, LSi or SDA towers. Just a simple array with ample surface area to produce man size bass.

    I've never had the pleasure of hearing the LS series. How do they sound compared to the RTA's?

    I've had the pleasure of demoing them both, fairly extensively inhouse. I've owned Monitor 8T's (RTA 8T) and RTA 15TL's (and various other Monitor series), and now LS90's. During the Texas Polkfest 2003 (see system showcase for pics), Wallstreet (Walter) brought over his LS90's, and we did a head to head with the 15TL's (with RDO tweeters).

    I don't feel like waxing audio poetic, and doing a formal review, but I'll nutshell it for you. The LS-90 vs RTA15TL - LS90 hands down. Both speakers will fill the largest room, and while easy to drive, will take the spurs getting put to 'em, if you follow me. The 90's had a slight edge in top end detail. The lower midbass (male vocals, bass guitar, etc) shined and had more presence in the 90's. While the RTA15TL's dug just ever so slightly deeper, the 90's seemed to have better bass control and speed. God they are FAST. Not electrostat fast, but not far off either.

    maybe you can check out audiogon and ebay for some http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1167180355 i dunno if that price is good for speakers of this age.

    Congratulations Russ!! Great score. I've been using a pair of LS70's since I purchased them new in '95. Currently using a PrimaLuna Prologue Four amp, N.E.W P-3 preamp, Pioneer tuner and Cambridge Audio Azur 640C V2 on them. They sound great. You got me thinking though. Maybe I should ugrade to a pair of 90's? Just for the hell of it. That's if I could come across a pair a little closer than the ones listed above. Well, we'll see. Again, congratulations.

    WHOA! Beautiful. Love the finish. I've never seen one of those before. Did they come out around the same time as the S series?

    btw, got your pm. I got the SEP. It arrived before the GTA. Gonna hook it up to the RT15i. Tried it with the Cornwall but the Klipsch are way too sensitive. Noise was too loud. I really like the looks of the SEP. Very neat. Looks MUCH better in person than on the pic you posted on the FM forum.

    yeah, I miss mine. I love the LSi in the theater but do miss the LS90's. the fact that they seemed to take everything you threw at it amazed me. I never heard it distort, even at the most insane volumes.


    compared to the RTA12? (as L&C asked) kind of apples and oranges. the RTA 12's (I had the B) were a little more laid back with the pearless tweeter than the LS90's Trilam. The LS90's were a bit more forward, but not obnoxiously so, which made it sound friggin fantastic for movies, as well as music. in terms of pure shake the house?, edge = LS90's. My one regret was that I never hooked em up directly to my 2 channel rig, so didnt hear them on serious power (ala Carver m4.0 or Hafler) Sounded damn good on the Rotel gear I had at the time, (2 ROtel RB960's biamped)


    both the RTA12 and LS90's are on my vintage Polk likey likey list :D

    Very nice Russ. They are beautiful and I'm sure they sound as good. I always loved tower speakers.

    Do you remember the RTR 300s & RTR 600s. They were awesome speaks. I owned both at one time. As a matter of fact, I sold the RTR 300s to my buddy (who still has them) to make room for my original SDA/SRSs back in the mid 80s.
