Video Capture Advice needed.

Here's the ****. I recently purchased a JVC Everio HDD camcorder and have been toying around with burning my own DVD's. One of the problems I've encountered is the lack of video capture capablities directly from the camera. The software I'm using is PowerProducer and PowerDirector, they came with the camera.

I'm considering adding a video capture card but I really am clueless about the various cards out there. Anyone have any advice for a low-end card that performs well?

How about software for burning DVD's that will actually play on a DVD player and not just on a PC?

Frank DVD,s made with PowerPro and PowerD should play on any DVD drive.

Are you not able to capture the video with either of these programs?

No capture at this time. My camera does include a Firewire cable, but the Capture option on the software isn't available to me. I've tried all of the options available and can only surmise that the lack of a Video Capture Card is the problem.

    Did you download any drivers?
I have a Panasonic mini DV camera and I had to download drivers from their website before I could capture to my PC.The drivers should have been on a disc included with your camera. If not check JVC's website for them.
I also had to purchase a 1394 firewire/USB card adaptor that was only $15.

Ok, if it has DV, iLink, Firewire, IEEE1394 out (All the EXACT same thing) and you have a firewire input on your computer, just use any editing/capture program. If the bundled software does not work, windows movie maker can do it. Plug in the cable, put Cam into VCR (playback) mode and Xp should give you some options on capturing video. Select your choice and load it up.

EDIT: Avoid USB at all costs. (Well, not ALL but anyway) it will be slower and likely be a lower quality of video

Edit 2: For DVD authoring, I use Adobe Encore, but I'm guessing you don't want to drop 200 on that (and thats the student price!) alot of bundled software can do it also, just select an NTSC setting (Could be Mpeg2 with PCM audio) to burn to and hopefully that should play. Hopefully, there would just be a DVD-video setting. Also, if you have a multi-format drive and have the choice of +R or -R, +R has better playback on older machines.
