OK, I need help with the setup of my LSi25's with my NAD T763 receiver. The manual for the receiver does not state if the subwoofer outputs are unfiltered or not. I need to know this if I am to hook the receiver into the LFE inputs on the subwoofers of my 25's. Does anyone know if the T763 SW outputs are unfiltered or not?? Thanks.

Subwoofer outputs are filtered to the same level that your crossover is set to. (i.e if your speakers are crossed over at 60hz, so is your LFE port)

Ok, please excuse my ignorance, but does this mean that I need to set my crossover on the receiver to match the speakers? I'm not sure what you mean. Again, I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this issue. Please explain crossover a little more for me if you don't mind. Thanks.

Bottom line for me: should I connect my subwoofer cables to the LFE input on my LSi25's or use the other input options on the subwoofer?

Hook 'em up by speaker wire, and set them to large (or sub off/no) on your AVR so that there will not be any nasty double filtering going on.

so don't even use my subwoofer cables? It seems to my ear that the bass sounds better when I use my subwoofer cables.

nope - if you do not have a subwoofer (other than the built in woofer in the LSi25's) I would set the AVR to sub off and fronts to large. (add a sub when you can)

The LSi25 already has it's own built in crossover to it's subs, and if you have the AVR's crossover in play too, there WILL be double filtering going on, and you don't want that.

And this holds true even if the subwoofer outputs on the receiver are unfiltered? Does double filtering damage the subwoofers?

actually your front speaker outputs on your avr are unfiltered. your subwoofer outputs are filtered unless you have all speakers set to large. (the filter is the part that sends bass below a certain frequency to the sub and above a certain frequency to your speaker.

It will not hurt the sub, but it will mess with the sound and typically make the sub sound not as good as it should. It will be much harder to integrate with your speakers as well.

So why even bother putting any inputs on the subwoofer section of the speaker? Why would someone want to use subwoofer cables at all? I'm very confused here (obviously!). I think I'll give Polk a call tomorrow and have them walk through my setup with me. I just hate to think I wasted money on expensive subwoofer cables!

Because it's better to have this optional choice than not. Some people will use these with 2 channel integrated amps with unfiltered pre-outs, etc.

Just save the cable, you will use it soon enough. ;)
