Maximizing SurroundBar Performance

I have a SurroundBar recently hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V659. The subwoofer is conneceted to the receive SW out, not directly to the SurroundBar. I have the crossover set at 120db. Should I have front speakers set to Large or Small, I've read both suggested? I've set surround speakers and rear speakers to Small and Presence set to none. The Bass is set to SW, the other choice is "Both." Any other suggestions for optomizing sound, e.g. the receiver is set to automatically set itself for a given signal, e.g. 7 channel for my CD, Surround Enhanced for TV etc. Thanks.
