Ye who are far more experienced than I, please help! Thanks.

500RMS monoblock for a 200rms rated sub?

As long as I set the gain safely, is this OK? Or, am I too overpowered anyway?

it would be a JL 500.1 amp with a rockford sub PS210

Reason why I would want to do this is fliexibility to add another sub, or a higher power rated sub, etc etc later.

Please advise this rank neophyte, thanks.

careful with the gains and you'll be more than fine.

Unless of course you go after that poor 200 watt sub with a few hours of Bass Mechanik or some sustained test tones ;) . Boston Acoustics' "Woofer Cooker" wouldn't be an ideal track either.

Normal music with common sense gain settings and volume control should be A OK- normal listening shouldn't put too much heat into the voice coil that your sub wouldn't have a chance of dissipating.

    Yup.

Think of it like this, a typical car is capable of 120 mph. Does that mean its doing 120 mph all the time? No. Same with an amp. You can hook a 1000 watt amp up to a 50 watt speaker if you wanted to. As long as youre not giving the speaker so much power that it either overheats or overexerts the suspension it will work.
