Rti8's? Or Rti6's With amp?

Title says it. I'm debating whether I should get some 8's or some 6's with a 150 to 200wpc 2 or 3 channel amp. I'm currently running 4's as mains (soon to be replaced by above), a csi3 and an SvS sub. I have a small 13x14 room 60% HT 40% music.

I'm leaning toward the 6 and amp combo for these reasons...I want this to be my last purchase for my HT. So the 6 and amp should complete this. IF i get the 8's like you said i will still need an amp AND I will need to upgrade to the csi5. I have a HK avr 435 Which should power the other speakers great.

Why bother getting an amp for the 6's? Yeah, a separate amp will sound better, but for the money there may be other options at your disposal that could make a bigger difference. What is your source? What receiver are you using? What kind of cables are you using?

Unless you're gonna buy 4 ohm speakers, I'd suggest getting an amp AFTER you have assembled your entire system with the components you want. Otherwise, your mid-fi amp could be competing with low-fi components.

First, focus on getting good quality speaker cables and interconnects, and a good DVD player.

FWIW I am running my 8's on my 335. They work well. I am i the process of buying 2 more monos for each 8. The csi3 is being powered by 1 currently and it does make a big difference.

last upgrade for 3-4 years I would consider the 8s, an external power amp, and the CSi5. That really would hold you down for some time.

I have to disagree, good amp will make more difference.

any option that involves the amp will make your dollar for upgrades down the road go further. it just gives you more options in terms of what speakers you can run. I say get the 6's and an amp out of the choices listed here.
with that svs, you'll still have more than adequate responce from top to bottom. then, if a speaker upgrade is in your future, you have an amp that will expand your possibilities.

last HT upgrade? he he he.......your FUNNY!!!!! :D

i would definitely get the 8's and if you are not pleased with the sound (highly doubtful) then get an external amp to power them off ebay or something for like 300 bucks and you will be fine. you can leave you csi3 till you can afford the csi5, i dont think it should make that much of a difference, i dont think ht is focused on one item in particular but how well they all mesh together and i think that if you just got a pair of 8's that would be the biggest difference, floorstanders dominate bookshelves imo. i have the rti6 and rti70's and the 70's win hands down due to the larger cabinet volume.

Jer ry, Check out my comments from this past weekend. It might give you some insight into thinking about amps. I HIGHLY recommend trying to find somewhere to demo amps. I would have never believed there would be such a difference.
