Theo ones from the late 80's early 90's are not bad. Quality took a hit in the mid 90's (like every thing else). But from what I've heard they have gotten better. Just make sure the place you get it from has a good return policy, and if you don't like it take it back.

Same thing I posted in the other thread.

Questionable build quality and they dont make their rated power.

    Not a fan.

I've used them in several installs in the past 3-4 years and none of the owners are complaining one bit.

As far as the brand new stuff goes, haven't had much reason to buy any new audio equipment let alone Hifonics stuff so I haven't really had any experience with the new stuff.

The comments made about poor build quality and an inability to make rated power, I just have not seen at all. In the late 90's when thier QC went down the tubes and the company was bought out by Maxxsonics, yeah, there were many problems. However, there have been big changes from what I have seen. They even re-released thier original Warrior series. They even used the original designs and updated the cases. Those amps, when they were first put out, had a reputation of putting out much more power than what they were rated at.

However, it's your money, you do with it how you please. I know Hifonics got themselves a bad rep and it wasn't unjustified but they made changes and turned things around. They are worth checking out IMO.

its looks like they are good amps to me, i was checking out the BXi 1206D which is putting out 1200 watts RMS @ 1-Ohm. I believe that will be suffice for three alpine type-r's. wouldn't you think?

Ive seen more than a few posts on various forums bitching about their Hifonics amps going down and in a Mobile Entertainment review on a Hifonics amp a couple years ago, the thing died on the bench.

As for their lack of rated power, most of the magazine reviews Ive seen on em, they dont make their specs. The last was in Car Audio and Electronics a few months ago. It was a Class D and missed its rated power by a long shot.

But John is right, its yo money and if you like em then by all means go for it!

ok since these amps have been known to die, what would be a sufficient amp to power three alpine type-r's and is in the 300-400 dollar range?

Go to Sounddomain.com and look around. They have a ton of different amps and are authorized dealers. Look around and see what catches your eye in the price and power range youre needing.

You might be able to pick up some nice Soundstreams on closeout for 300-400 dolalr range. Soundstream had some nice units last year and this year too. Might be a tad hard to find though. Sounddomain.com doesn't seem to have a huge selection any more. They don't have much in the big power categories anymore.

You might want to look at onlinecarstereo.com They have a bigger selection of stuff. They can at least give you an idea of what else is out there even if you don't buy from them.
