amp for 100 watt rms speakers?

do i need to have a 100x4 amp for my 4 spaekres or would and 80x4 work just as good....when u get an amp does it work only off of the amp power or is it the amp plus ur head unit...my deck is 52x4 max 17x4 rms so does that mnea if i get an 80x4 rms amp that total ill have 97x4 rms

    An external amp is hooked up to the RCA (preamp) outputs of your head unit. These bypass the head unit's power amp altogether so they don't add to the head units power.

    80X4 will drive your DBs nicely.
