Ok. i do 99.0 of my electronics buying on the used market.. like a lot of you all do too. I've found and lucked into some pretty decent deals over the years... SDA SRS's, to name just one.
Ok. So i browse Audiogon about once a week.. and I gotta say.. either i'm one cheap **** **** or maybe I never seem to see the "good" deals to be had. I've never found anything on there that I would consider a good deal.. let alone a great deal.
Polk audio PSW-250 powered subwoofer Subwoofer $200.00
Polk LSi-15 local pickup only Spkr-Full $999.00
Polk LS 90 local pick up good condition Spkr-Full $650.00
Polk audio LSI-15 Spkr-Full $1450.00
Polk audio SRS Sda signature reference speakers - sweet! Spkr-Full $1995.00
Polk audio SRS 1.2Tl Spkr-Full $1200.00
Polk lsi-15 floorstanding Spkr-Full $875.00
Polk LSi25, LSi9, lsifx several to choose Spkr-Full $1150.00
Polk audio 25i black for 130.00 Spkr-Moni $130.00
Polk audio RT 35i Monitors Spkr-Moni $210.00
Polk RT55i Spkr-Moni $325.00
I see one or two ok deals.. but nothing great. Maybe I just miss the really good deals or something.
Anyway... i just had to vent on this.. i'm good now.

There are some really good deals that show up, but they are sold and disappear within a day usually. If you want good deals on A-gon, you need to check several times a day.For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

That's the thing... you've gotta be quick. Every now and then, someone new to the 'Gon will offer something at a ridiculous price -- at which point you're taking somewhat of a risk.
A Rotel RB990 in mint condition just went for $250.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Yes speed is key on Audiogon. I picked up my lightly used PC-Ultra last year for about 800.00 on the day it was posted. It was great timing as I was about to order a 20-39 PC+ from SVS anyway.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH

Another helpful thing on Audiogon is, if you are waiting for something specific - search for it. There are a number of good deals for various pre-amps I have seen while looking for one. Most of them were still there because I did a search on Integra, Outlaw, Rotel or NAD and the person has listed them in the AVR or 2 channel section by mistake.
So the deals are there, just look often and use the search funtion if you are looking for anything specific.

Sometimes we're talking minutes.... at one point last month, used PS Audio UPC-200's were showing up left and right for around $200 and were disappearing within minutes.
Mazeroth can also testify about how fast the Magnepan MMG's were generally swiped up. Sometimes, about 5 minutes is all you have... so luck and constantly checking are key, especially if you're looking for something in particular...I never had it like this where I grew up. Yep, you gotta watch the "New Today" page, and refresh it throughout the day. Searching for items just shows you the stuff that's been listed for a day or so. It takes some time for the new stuff to show up in a search.Sony KDL-40V2500 HDTV, Rotel RSX-1067 Receiver, Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray, Slim Devices Squeezebox, Polk RTi6, CSi3 & R15, DIY sub with Atlas 15

thanks peepsPolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Every good used deal I ever pulled off, I responded to it within the hour of it being posted AND there were many others right after me. Response time is key. In response to the audiogon ads, there aren't too many good deals I'd jump on. Then again, I hate knowing I could have paid less for something, so I only jump on the best deal possible.

It is more important to purchase audio gear than necessaties. You see, you can always the sell the gear to raise some coin but you can't sell necessaties.

No lie... I tried to Fleabay some oxygen, tuna, and good ol' H2O and didn't get any responses for my low, low, low BIN price (which I won't divulge because I was thinking of placing 'em in our very own Flea Market, thank you very much..)I never had it like this where I grew up. RT is 100% correct! As a matter of fact, even used equipment can be turned around quickly. Ever see anyone get any coin out of used toilet paper? In my house the necessities of all things audio come first. Hey, if any money is left over I'll buy that other crap...

I agree that you must act quickly! (How's that for TV announcer speak!) I have bought and sold on Augiogon for several years. In almost every occasion, I had a sale within 2-3 days. Buying-wise, if you see a good deal, pounce! I've lost out because of deliberating for a day or two.Two-Channel System:

i just have all the searches i do on audiogon favorited so that any time a new item pops up it will not be purple (old hyperlink) so it sticks out like a sore thumb and i search ebay sorting by the date posted to look for BIN at a low price (polk on ebay is almost worthless unless you do a local pick up, always sells for too high to consider a steal) and i have craigslist in my favorites. i search them about 5 times a day and somehow ive still missed out on 3 deals. persistence is key and it will pay off im sure. keep bargain hunting!!!

Polk is like any other ebay item, undervalued BIN's happen on them as well.
On the 'Gon... "OBO" often comes into play. I've gotten a couple "good" deals there and have negotiated free shipping to boot.More later,

I purchased a set of Thiel 3.6's off of Audiogon that look and function perfectly for $1100. New, these cost at least $3600. I'm happy.
