rescued sda-1c's

I recently acquired a pair of sda-1c's from someone that had no respect for them. Naturally i scooped them up cheap, and joined your forum. I have a plethora of questions. First is there a newbie section I need to be in? I've read about crossover mods, speaker upgrades etc, but I am unsure where to start. I'm thinking that quite a few drivers and tweeters need replacing. Are these speakers acceptable to use as fronts in a ht? Any and all input will be much appreciated to get me headed in the right direction. Thanx in advance.

Welcome to our humble audio abode, and congrats on the 1c's. Fine speaker when setup and driven properly.
The search feature of the board is your newest best friend. Plenty of info, but post away to create some dialogue.
Thanks for choosing Polk Audio!
Cheers,

Yeah Al, use that internet x-ray vision to determine which of his drivers and tweeters are bad.:p
Welcome to the Club and get your learn on. As RuSs stated, the search feature is your friend. Another hint to your Club Polk experience....develop thick-skin...we like to bust balls arounds here and normally it's never personal.
Congrats on your SDA 1C find. Once you have determined which, if any, of your drivers/tweeters are bad, just call CP customer service and get your replacements ordered. Make sure to let them know that you are a CP member and you'll get discounted pricing, plus free shipping!!!! You might as well go ahead and replace all the tweeters with the silk replacements while you're at it. It's the best upgrade you can do for those speakers.
Again, Welcome."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,

definitly a worthy speaker of your efforts. Identifying the bad drivers shouldnt be too hard. do they play at all? check the midbases, push them GENTLY with five fingers placed evenly around the dustcap to see if the drver even moves, if it dont, tells you right off the bat it will need to be replaced.
if the tweeters are shot, the bad news id they dont make em anymore, the good news? Polk has silk dome repleacements that I feel are far superior to the originals. Even if the tweeters arent shot, I would suggest replacing them with the silks. Call Polk customer service, they'll take care of ya. 48.00 a piece since your a club polk member (tell them that). worth EVERY PENNY.
As you find the problems, search here or give us a shout if you cant find anything. like I said, those 1C's are worth btinging back to life.Living Room 2 Channel -

also.. do you have the SDA cables that goes between the two speakers? if you don't.. then some of the drivers will not play.. the SDA cable is needed for the SDA drivers to activate.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Thanks for the welcome wagon boys. Much appreciated. I'll list my questions, and try not to be to lengthy. I spoke with Polk today, they have the silk tweets no problem. When it comes to stereo drivers and sda drivers becomes more complicated. Depending on stock they may or may not have the mw6511 and mw6511. They may send another part number that are equivalent? If all my drivers don't need replacing is it o.k. to mix and match these part numbers? Should I try to get the originals? I also need to get in touch with Darqueknight to get a copy of the sda compendium. I don't have enough posts yet so pm is out. I would also like opinions on what sort of separates to use to drive these speakers in a ht set-up. I think they are somewhat like a corvette, and am not afraid to open them up to some serious volume, but something a whole lot more than an HK AVR 65 will be needed. thanx in advance.

And yes, I do have the interconnect cable.

Just an FYI: The MW replacement drivers do look different than the originals, so if you prefer listening to them without grills and mix and match old and new, this may be a distraction. The cone and dustcap are of slightly different materials and shape.
The 6511 and 6510 that you need are pretty hard to come by even on the used markets. Polk also sent MW6600X as replacements for some of them for awhile.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Hey Dennis. Not to concerned with appearance, covers are on all the time. I was concerned with performance differences. I didn' want the scenario like running a sl2000 tweeter and a rdo-194 like another post i was reading

I dont think it will be a problem having different drivers if polk says it will work. I would plan on swapping all of them just for aesthetics and resale value down the road, but no rush.Living Room 2 Channel -

Welcome.
Take your time and don't get in a hurry. 1st determine which drivers if any are bad.
Use an old paper towel roll a listen to each one at a moderate volume.
Original MW6510 are not hard to come by 6511 are. I like the originals better.

Too funny.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

That is funny... Think mr. G ever got them up and running... I was all ready to see if he had any frozen drivers I could try to fix...
