I narrowed my search down to the Sony SXRD and the Sammy 5088. Both 50 inch. I chose the Sammy because it was a little cheaper at the time of purchase and I figured if I did not like it or became a victim of the rainbow effect, Crutchfield had a 30 day return policy.

They currently have that set on sale right now for $2100.00 which is about 400 less than what I paid for it. When the sammy was delivered, I was not too happy with the delivered torch mode settings so I spent the additonal funds to get a professional calibration. After that, I could not be happier.

    Good luck!

After doing side by side comparisons, reading the lengthy avsforum threads and talking to the professional calibraters, the choice was obvious to me ... You should make your own evaluation as everyones taste is different ... As far as where to buy goes, check the internet as prices there are usually significantly better then the brick & morter store and catalog stores ... The Sammy can be found now for between 16-1700 ...

New plasmas are much better than the old ones that gave them a bad rep. I fix computers for a living and use lcd screens. LCDs are way over rated. I think they fade much faster. The colors aren't as sharp, and the overall picture dims with time. Ok so some of you will say turnup the brightness. Do that and it will turn into a bleached out color deprived picture.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
