Does anybody know if any other Mfgs, besides Toshiba & RCA, will manufucture HD-DVD players?
When will the likes like Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha E.t.c. jump in?

Have not been able to find any news.
Is everybody waiting to see who wins the Format war?

Yep, there is a HP add on drive for the Xbox 360 that plays HD DVD.

Wait until 2007, I'm sure we'll see more manufactures for HD DVD. As of now, the future for Sony and BR isn't looking so good.

Good news for Blu-ray!! Another nail in the coffin for HD DVD!!:D :p

!!! What is the good news for Blur-Ray?

I think they where not ready to begin with. The only reason they rushed to production is so HD-DVD doesn't corner the market. B-R technology is totally new, where HD-DVD adds on to the existing format and easier to implement.

    peteran,

I was being sarcastic. It's an ongoing joke over at AVS. I have 2 XA1's and over 50 titles, I support HD DVD very well.

Say, does anyone have their packaging for an HDA1 still? I am buying the display model at work, but beginning Nov 1, Toshiba will be giving away 3 free HD DVD's with the purchase of any of their players. However it requires the UPC code and I don't have the box.

PM me if you can send me the UPC code.

    Thanks!

I am in the market for a player, still debating whether it is worthwhile to wait for HD-XA2 (supposedly coming this December) or dive-in on XA1.

    Thoughts?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

If you want a player that functions more like an up to date dvd player, from what I hear I'd wait for the XA2 or A2. If you don't mind waiting about 40 seconds for the disk to play get the XA1.

Anyway, why do you want the XA2 over the A2? There is really nothing on that player to take advantage of besides the analog outs and 1080p output(even this feature is questionable). It's also twice the price of the A2. If you will be using HDMI the newer A2 would be the way to go.

Mike, I just bought a Sony KDL-40V2500, 1080p capable, so might as well try to to match it with a XA2. I will use HDMI. I think the final market price will be close to $699-$799 range.

Your Sony Display will convert the signal regardless. The XA2 at this point is only suppose to output 1080p60 which your display can't take advantage of anyway. There is a rumor that you'll be able to update the player via firmware to 1080p24 which is what you want. There is also rumors that Toshiba is working this issue as we speak, but we won't see the player some time in January.

BTW, there are a lot of useful threads on this subject over at AVSforum. There is one over there specifically just for the newer A2/XA2.

I don't know which one it was but I was playing with one in our local "great indoors" and it took so freakin long to load and start playing I thought I had broken it. I wonder what it is thinking about for so long? It really annoyed me. One is on my list once they speed them up a bit.

 And you come to this conclusion, how?

I'd love to see you get your hands on one of these on that date for that price! Did you preorder one? I guess you forgot that the PS3 is delayed once again, probably won't see it until next year? Do you actually think you'll get your hands on one this year?

You are speculating a Sony product that has a terrible track record lately. NO ONE knows how this will perform, as it seems with how things are going lately I would take anything Sony says with a grain of salt!

I'm also sure that the unit wasn't updated with the newest firmware, also quit positive your talking about the Toshiba HD-A1.

With 2.0 out, It takes roughly 40 sec to fully play a HD DVD. Not bad to me, give me time to go take a leak and find a comfy spot in the couch. The new firmware made a big difference in my player. I also get 5.1 TrueHD output!:)

It has not been delayed?? Where do you get your information from, it's been delayed for almost a year now.

So, you think that the people that didn't wait in line for 12 hrs or overnight at Gamespot to preorder there PS3 are going to see a PS3 this year??

The only way someone will see a player by Xmas is if they provided both of their testicles for one.:p I see right now that they are going in the range of $1500 - $3000 on Ebay from the shmucks that preordered them.

I'd love for you to point me in the direction where it can be had for those prices on that date, please PM me I'll take all of them! The average person WILL NOT see a PS3 this year!

Anyone paying that kind of money for a player GUARANTEED to become outdated and replaced is an idiot. Even if it wasn't going to be replaced in a few years, $1500 for a friggin video game system?

Nope, far from being a know-it-all! Just letting everyone else know the FUD you are spreading on this board! 1 million units!!!! LMFAO!!! :D

Sony is suppose to release a total of 480k units on that date. Far from 1mil! 80k is going to Japan alone. FYI, don't be suprised if you don't get your player on that date! It is not guaranteed, have fun camping out again!:)

The OP didn't ask for what year the PS3 will be out, he asked if there will be more manufactuares of HD DVD!

I personally haven't seen any pre-orders with a guaranteed date- read the fine print. Anyhow, the price is fixed and as of today the US is getting 400,000... but as of yesterday Japan was getting 100,000 and today it's 80000, so who knows? Sony is gonna take a 1.7 billion dollar hit on the PS3 and has a strong penchant for f--king itself over. That said, I've seen several stories re: universal players, so maybe in the end, it won't matter.

Their is nothing wrong with this statement. Blu - Ray WILL get a huge consumer bump with the PS3. That would be the system that according to many on the forum - no one would ever want or ever buy. Give me a break.
It was never delayed because a date was never set way early on. The Nov. time has been right all year.
$1500 for a PS3 isn't that crazy - the Xbox360 was sitting on the shelf at my local WalMart and they were going for $1000 on Ebay. Thier is like a Milloniare made every 60 minutes. The consumer market is loaded.......

hehe. There IS something wrong with the statement "Their is nothing wrong with this statement."

Anyhow, I agree completely that the PS3 will give the blu-ray a huge bump. I just think it's almost too late. What is going to be in everyone's heads once we finally see the full on xbox/ps3 & blu-ray/HD-DVD matchup? The Bluray options are more expensive and will be glitchier (1st gen, it happens). This christmas you can fork over the $1500 for a PS3 on ebay or buy an xbox 360 at any walmart. You can buy the most expensive HD-DVD for $800 or the cheapest bluray for $800. HD-DVD has the head start, but I'm also curious when anyone other than Sony, Samsung & Toshiba are gonna get into the game.

EDIT: Apparently Sony isn't even in the game- I thought that they'd released their player, but I guess not:

I just don't see a very large electronic consumer market running out to buy the "HD" DVD market, period. I am very happy with standard/upconverting DVD market right now, in more than one way (recordable). I am very happy with my 600 plus dvd collection.:)
