Magnet Size Question - 12" Woofer

I have an old pair of floor speakers, and noticed that the 12" woofers were shot. The speakers themselves weigh 8 lbs. each - I am not sure about the magnet weight. I bought new ones, and the magnets are 20 ounces. They sound worse. Do I need speakers with 40 or 50 ounce magnets? Is that what enhances the bass sound? Thanks.

No, the right driver that was designed for that speaker will work best usually. Magnet size usually isnt an issue & Im assuming in your case the replacement drivers have very different t/s spec's than the originals & thats why they dont sound very good. What kinda speakers do you have & what replacement drivers did you buy?

Size doesn't matter.................woofers are specifically designed for box size, tuning, and suspension type (sealed, ported, etc.) You will need to look for a woofer designed for the box size and type that you already have.
