Hello all,
I'm a student and on a very tight (prohibitevly so) budget. Here's the deal: I just picked up Monitor 30s on sale and love the sound - although not having a subwoofer is of course noticeable and I'm having a slight imaging problem as the table is too low and not quite wide enough given my 24inch t.v . I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for improvement. I bi-wired into the B speaker outputs of my stereo receiver (Yamaha rx 397) and didn't notice a low end improvement although I detect (at times) crisper highs. I'm also saving up for a turntable so any advice in that department would be helpful too.

move your Monitor 30's away from the back wall if they are close up to it. sometimes moving them away from each other.. about 6ft or more may help.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Oh yeah, Welcome! -
Frank Z wrote:No, you attempted to Bi-amp, but most receivers will cut the rated output in half if you select both A & B speakers.
Hmmm, I am certainly no expert, but i thought the benefit from bi-wiring was (at least in part) that the signal for the lows wasn't included in the same wire as those for the highs -in which case what i did should have been successful - no? [used the B speaker outputs on Receiver to run wire to the second inputs on the Mon. 30s] If not, what, if anything, can i do with the already cut wire? Anyway, I'm not too worried about cutting the rated output because these speakers are sooo efficient.
Also, any suggestions on a decent turntable> - I've got some high quality bootlegs of Hendrix and Hot Tuna that I've been dieing to listen to for over a year...
I am fairly new to all this indeed, so please let me know when I'm being stooopid. -

Hey Frankz,
Thanks for those links, definitely a big help. The second one was really helpful, especially the pic. I understand bi-wiring now. I see how what I've done has been referred to as ghetto-bi-amping....
You seem to be really knowledgable, any suggestions for <$150 turntable? -
In that price range you're in the ebay/used TT arena...no help here. I can highly recommend Music Hall. I've got a MMF2.1 that I'm very pleased with.
