SDA-1c Cable;Crossover; Binding post Help

This is my first post and I should have posted earlier but, I am kinda shy.

I recently stumbled upon 4 sda 1-c's along with a vintage Denon and pre-amp for a very good price;) Thanks to fellow polkie sucks2beme.

I have one of these pairs up and running and I just luv em!

The problem is with the second pair. They did not come with a interconnect cable and one of the binding posts was broken. On top of that, the crossover was knocked loose on the inside of the cabinet, and was hanging.

Since I have the crossover out, I am thinking why not go ahead and upgrade it while I am at it. Can anyone point me into the right direction of a link to some suggested capacitor upgrades? I do not have an extensive electonics background but, I think I can handle a soldering iron.

Once I have upgraded the crossover, is there a rule on where to secure it? Originally it was secured to the coil but, the plastic connectors that were attached to the circuit board have broke off. Would it be ok to somehow secure it to the side of the side of the inside of the cabinet with a couple of screws??

Now on to the next problem. Any suggestions for some beefier binding posts?
The stock posts seem to be on the cheap side so, I am thinking that I should upgrade all of them while I am at it.(Links would be greatly appreciated)

Now to the cable dilema. The cable that I need is the pin/blade style. If anyone has upgraded their sda's and do not have use for their old one, I would gladly take it off their hands. But, I guess if I have to , I would have to make a "homemade version". I would appreciate any suggestions in this area also.:)

Hi Hookem - welcome to the forums.

Try doing a search on various terms - there is plenty out there to learn from. This one should get you started: Solens Search

I have heard the crossover mod is not one to be attempted unless you are pretty handy with the soldering.

Stick around - I am sure some of the pros will weigh in as well.

I bought the Vampire BPHEX for my SDA 2's. You can find them cheaper at many places on the web. I bought mine from partsconnexion.com after a recommendation from Mike at mikespolkpage2 on yahoo groups.

Don't screw the crossover to the cabinet, instead use threaded standoff's, the kind that you can insert a screw into at each end in place of the original plastic "T" types. www.mouser.com

Sonicap caps and many others to choose from, but no Solens, Mills resistors and Cardas binding posts at www.soniccraft.com

Welcome, and don't be too concerned about the soldering thing; I did mine with VERY little soldering experience......just go slowly and practice a bit before you actually do the crossover.

"but no Solens"?? I would have expected something in the line of "Solens are good, but Sonicaps will give you the best improvement....."
The way you put it...well, I read it as "your speakers will sound worst with Solens than with the originals...."
Care to explain? Many of us have used Solens with great results.

Ok. I did a search at mouser and there seems to be alot of "standoffs" without any pics. To save time and aggravation, do you have a part# in mind?

Almost every item has a pic in PDF format. You may also want to look in your local hardware store or Ratshack. Standoffs are also called spacers.

Nice grab hookem!
I "got by with a little help from my friends" in upgrading the x-overs.
I couldn't find stand offs that fit so just went w/ plastic nuts and bolts available at Home Depot, electronics stores, etc.
Let us know if you find the specific stand off that works well if you go that route.

I ordered the standoffs from mouser and I did not realize that they are only 35 miles away from me.

The bummer is, they do not do counter sales. But, they had what I wanted so, thanks for the help guys!

Next on the list, I need a list of the specific xover caps that I need to order.

I am electronically challenged so, I will have to have my friend solder the board for me. He told me to get the parts and he will do the rest....

Any suggestions??

Welcome Hookem! As some others have said, buy the Sonicap capacitors and Mills resistors (sonicraft.com). You won't go wrong! Good luck and welcome!
