HD Dolby and Preamp support

I have a 950 outlaw preamp. Now, with the new format of HD sound coming out (Dolby HD etc.) will i still be able to support the new upgrade sound format?

    According to Dolby's site, Dolby TrueHD is "compatible" with current Pre/Pro's, but that term makes me assume that while audio will play it won't be outputting the fullest potential.

    I guess it comes down to wether or not full implementation requires a new physical processor or can be done by a firmware update. If your Outlaw has a USB or RS232 connector for updating firmware, I'd say there's at least a chance.

    An other option may be for the HD-DVD or Blu-ray player to decode these new formats and send them through multi-channel analog outs to a pre-pro or AVR's multi-channel analog inputs.

    This would be a stopgap until pre-pros and AVRs come equipped with the ability to decode the new formats.

    You're not going to be able to listen to the true Dolby TrueHD unless you use the analog outputs on the DVD player itself. There is a DD track on the next gen DVDs so you can listen to that on your current receivers.

    For those looking at getting a receiver with the decode ability for TrueHD and DTS-HD, they should be announced pretty soon... CES at latest.

    You can always use HDMI output to get TrueHD also.

    I thought that none of the current avr & pre-pro could decode the new new sound from hd-blu-ray
    My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

    No current AVRs/preamps do that. Once HDMI 1.3 + the TrueHD/DTS-HD decoders are added to AVRs (that's sort of redundant), you'll be good to go. Like I said, you should hear lots of news by CES.

    As of right now you cant enjoy true Hd from the blu-ray camp, however you can currently enjoy it with HD-DVD using your current setup

    Sorry, let me make myself more clear.

    No current AVR can decode TrueHD. The player (I ment HD DVD player) can decode TrueHD 5.1 and send it as PCM to you AVR via HDMI or analog out.

    You don't need HDMI 1.3 to take advantage of TrueHD/DTS-HD.
