Considering Switching Surrounds...?

I am thinking of replacing my current Von Schweikert surrounds (These) with new Von Schweikert surrounds ( These).
I don't use dipole/bipole anything so that should not be an issue. I am thinking that they could be angled and placed a bit lower on the wall horizontally...? Should I try them or stay with what I have?

I like your room and think the new speakers will look great in there.
Have you listened to them anywhere?
Do you like what you hear?
Can you afford to try them?
If you answered yes to any two of these questions then go for it.
If you answered no then..... go for it anyway just for the experience.Skynut

I only have 3rd party info that they sound good but no info as to how they will be as surrounds. I was thinking that since they have 2 mid drivers and I can place them horizontally at an angle that they might be better in my room. I guess there is only one way to find out.
I don't have a lot of money but I would if I did not spend it on this stuff:p

could not have said it better myselfI thought it was fairly amusing also. The Polk Ogre doesn't always get 'it' -
I ordered them (of course..did anyone really think I wouldn't?:D ) and the nice folks at Von Schweikert told me that they are being discontinued as they are not selling well for them. Of course I found this out AFTER I placed my "all sales are final' order at VonSchweikert.com
Anyhoo...they assured me that they are excellent sounding speakers and that I will probably wish that I had ordered more.Sharp Elite 70

Well I got them up tonight (not too easy by myself) and I am listening to them. They need to break in but they are a nice sounding speaker. I think I like them pretty good and I have them angled at the listening position. I feel more "surrounded" so far. The timbre match is better. Almost seemless. I am pretty pleased with that.Sharp Elite 70

Congrats Darla on the new acquisition. I'm sure they sound as good if not better than the previous ones, but personally I like the looks of your old ones.Michael

Personally I like the versatility of your original surrounds. Also I am wondering how much positioning you will be forced to do with the new ones to get a good surround effect in all locations of your theatre. They will definitely be louder with a 14ohm impedence (never even knew you could get 14ohm home theatre speakers). Not sure that is a good thing or not.
Keep us informed and I hope you made a wise purchase.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

Actually I had to bump up the volume on the pre with these about 2.5.
the seating in my room is pretty limited to three so I have them angled at the sweet spot since I am the only one that really cares in the house.Sharp Elite 70

My bad Darla. I was looking at the impedence and did not pay any attention to the sensitivity settings. Your old speakers did have a sensitivity of 90db while the new ones have a lower rating of 87.5. Sorry about not reading all the specs. So much for my reading skills.
With their positioning being more critical, less flexibility, and harder to drive, the only vote the new speakers get in my corner is that they can be more aesthetically pleasing. Of course with surround speakers, aesthetics may be more important than other items.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

I have tried them out with several surround demos and I am pleased. I am especially happy with the timbre. The TS 150s were supposed to match but these are better. I am not sure I like the looks better but time will tell. Sound wise so far I am preferring them for my narrow room.Sharp Elite 70
