it looks like this Athanasius Kircher may have him beat.

Athanasius Kircher first described some audio equipment in his landmark 1650 work "Musurgia Universalis".
One of his devices was used to relieve an Italian prince of his chronic depression.

Several chapters on Kircher's inventions can be found in the book "Instruments and the Imagination", by Thomas Hankins and Robert Silverman.


With Polk's apparent efforts to expand their presence in the audio market, they may be interested in his work. With modern technology at their disposal, who knows where they may take his original ideas.
