LG Electronics WARNING

Just in case someone is considering purchasing a new television I wanted to let everyone know how well LG Electronics take care of their customers. I purchased a 40" Zenith HD projection t.v. on 12-09-2005 which is still under the twelve month parts and labor warranty. The last week of August 06 I noticed a red flare in the bottom left of the screen. I contacted the store that I purchased the set from and they contacted the service center they used for LG warranty repair work. They were told that they were no longer authorized by LG for warranty work. I then called LG on Aug.30 and was told they would find service for me and someone would be contacting me. To make a long story short, after numerous phone calls to LG, and being assured they were working on the issue, I am now at day FIFTY THREE since I requested service directly to LG. Luckily I have been able to watch the tv although the red flare is pretty irritating, I can not imagine how upset and mistreated someone would feel if their tv went completley out and had to wait two months or longer without a tv waiting for service. Since this is still on going I will update how this comes out, but I have dealt with numerous computer and electronic companies in my life but nobody holds a candle to LG on how uncaring they are to their customers.

Once an issue is reported (under the warranty period) it doesn't matter how long it takes to fix it, its still covered. I had a Tohisba that took the better part of 3 months to get resolved. 3 repairs didn't fix it, in fact, after the 3rd "repair" it was totally dead! Took another few weeks to get Toshiba to authorize a replacement, which turned out to be a headache because the original model was discontinued and the newer model was more expensive. I ended up having to fork out another hundred fifty to get the new set.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

The store in which you purchased the TV is the one you should be putting pressure on! I too had an issue with LG (it was a dryer). I went round and round with LG's customer service only to get ignored for months. Contact the store...they sold it you and it is their resposibility to fight the battle with any warranty issues with LG. Gotta get tough! Sit down and write a nice letter explaining your situation to the head honcho of the place you bought your tv. You might be suprised how fast they act if you word things in a creative, professional manner.

Ive heard a lot of bad things about LG as well.

I was walking around the mall yesterday which has like 50 Sprint kiosks. Every single one of the salesmen told me to stay far away from LG.

I wouldnt touch their tv's either.

I try to stick with Sony for tv's with Panasonic and Toshiba for a close second.

Sanyo seems to be making better gear these days as well. Ive heard a lot of good things about them. Actually Consumer Reports has Sanyo listed as the most reliable brand of CRT tv!!

Thanks for all of the good suggestions everyone, I will go to work on them Monday. Macleod, I just found out today that before changing their name to LG Electronics the company was Goldstar Electronics which I believe was the super cheap brand that was sold at Wallyworld a few years ago. LG then purchased Zenith. Finding this info did not make me feel much better about my purchase.

Goldstar was a super cheap brand, but the rebranding to LG was made so that they could make better products without the cheap product stigma. LG's are a middle of the road brand, IMO. Better than the the dumper, no-name stuff, but not on the same level as the the CE giants.

The red flare you speak of, is that the speckles of red pixels flashing? I've seen it on several LG plasmas. Not sure what causes it, but it is not uncommon.

I can't speak to their other devices, but I've had LG cell phones for the past 5 years and I absolutely love them. They're durable as hell. Granted, every manufacturer has their lower end **** for people that just want 'cheap' but I don't think LG is a bad cell phone manufacturer.

I kind figured that LG was the brand they make the least commission on or something.

Still, me and the missus have been using Sanyo phones for a few years and they have been great. I did have some pixels burn out on my LCD after a year but got it swapped out for a new one for $50 so all is well.

Same with me. At least with Verizon I have no doubts that LG makes their best phones. The Motos are the crappy ones that Verizon sells as well as Samsung.

Can't say anything about their service though because even after 5 years all my LG cell phones still work like the day I bought them.

Check out this guy's story about his Hitachi Plasma. Pretty funny read.

Exactly. This is the latest trend of **** that stores are pulling 'you must contact the manufacturer" horseshit. Take your TV back and make alot of noise around other potential customers until they bring out a replacement.

The LG brand may be middle of the road but they're still Goldstar junk to me. LG made the power supplies and analog boards for Apple iMacs and late-model CRT monitors. I've stopped repairing them so many have failed. It's a joke. If you have one of these things that hasn't gone up in smoke you'll be in the minority in a few years.

Well a service tech. has been here twice, both times he brought a new convergance board with him. Neither fixed the problem and in fact with both boards he could not even adjust the convergance so both times he had to reinstall the old board. When he left the last time he said he needed to get the service manual from the company and maybe he could adjust the convergance on the new board from the manual. If there is any doubt what a B.S. company LG is, I spoke to him today and he told me he has requested the manual from the company five times and it still has not been sent to him. Oh Yea, I found out LG's policy is they have sisty days to get a service man out on a problem and then another sixty days from the day the repair man arrives to get the problem fixed. So LG gives themselves four months to fix a problem!!!
