    aaharvel,

You continue to belittle me, with the "cowboy" tag. I might not have posted as often as you have but I think most of the elders would agree I've been around. Again the RX-V4600 was out of production almost two years ago. The RX-V2400 almost 4 years ago. You're looking at the date of the link not how old the actual product is. This could be seen as a blanket statement when your orginal link (even if it was posted in 2004) is of a product that is four years old.

    http://www.hometheatermag.com/receivers/205marantz/

That probabaly has as much relevance.

I noticed you have alot of HK equipment hence I must have hit a nerve. I'm sorry. I just think in today's market the HK and Marantz aren't as competative. We'll agree to disgree.

Please stop with the name calling, it's getting kind of old.

not saying you haven't been around. never suggested that. Anyone that has the gear you have i mean come on.. Freaking KreLL? And cowboy isn't belittling. Just the same as one calling another "cochise." It's not belittling, at least from my perspective. Yours maybe different therefore i'm sorry. Regarding Hometheatermag, then they should get with the times.. you know.. to allow those like SamIam to make a better informed decision.

I don't take offense to anti-h/k or whomever. What I have issues with is how avr's as an entity or measured for their wattage specs, and are often mis-represented to the consumer.

Thanks peoples! Ah, now we're getting some meat in this stew!

As far as buying a receiver right now, wouldn't you agree it's pointless, at this point in time, to get a receiver for a home theater that doesn't have the codecs for the blueray or hddvd? Even the makers of receivers are holding off on hdmi 1.3 right now so with that, I decided to go with something less expensive to get me by till the prices come down in a year or two. Smart move Samiam, let's throw some of that money on some quality extras!

Here's how I operate. When I buy electronics, that product has to have had good reviews from users over the 70% range.

It is a theory I have had when ordering on NewEgg...if the product I am getting doesn't have at least a 70% positive, then forget it. I've bought too much and learned that the hard way.

Here are my findings, shooting from the hip:

Onkyo 50% love 50% bad product return
    Denon 65% love 35% disappointed
Yamaha 65% love 35% not happy
Harman Kardon 80% love 20% too complicated
Marantz 80% love 20% too simple but fantastic in the middles

Granted this is on last years models but overall this is what I've found. If I popped $750 on a current model Marantz, say the SR5001
I get everything that the others are offering and at the same price so I don't see how they are overpriced either. Huh, guess I did my homework.

    ......drum roll......

    And the winner is!.........

    Cue in spotlight..........

a BRAND NEW MARANTZ SR 7500!

Cue applause, camera one, audience, camera two back to winner, camera 3 focus on confetti and balloons dropping....

Finally the search is over. I have demo'd just about every receiver known to man and this little beast has the biggest bang for buck musically over all the others I have tested. I got a killer deal on this, new, 3 year warranty. Sound for pound this is the best receiver, soon to be pre-amp I could find. That being said, all other opinions and receiver comparison comments/you should have got comments are NOT WELCOME!

    Start your own thread! Woot!

Ok bucko... first off you misquoted me (as can been seen in your post)... i was congratulating you on your Marantz receiver purchase... i used to own a Marantz myself... I like them..

How or why in the world you took my congrats to mean that i was **** on your thread.. i have no idea.

For all other Polkies.. here is the nice private message I got from samiam today after I posted a congrats to him for his purchase.

    hey not cool
Hey **** for brains take your **** post off. Your diminutive posts about Marantz are fine, but not after I specifically requested that you NOT **** on my recent purchase. What a **** redneck.

That really pisses me off. If you want to tell me how you really feel, I'll be in Spokane this weekend. We could meet at Huppins and settle the receiver debate. Chicken ****?

    **** YOU!

i don't post much but when i do it's relevant. i'm still learning about alot of home theater recivers, amps you name it i'm learning from u guys. you all have me excited about gettting a svs sub or hsu one day. but here at a place where polkies and audio lovers come to congregate, it bothers that even on the web we are not far from unwanted confrontation or even ignorance. in short. let's have fun, laugh, educate, trade facts or advise but let's leave the ignorance at the door.

Maybe if we are lucky he and that piece of junk Marantz he bought will now go away. I am however impressed with his ability to express himself in a precise, coherent manner (as is obvious in his PM to db). He just might be an asset to this forum....

Man talk about a bad flavor in one's mouth. This is the third post where you reference the "good looks" of a marantz. As if to say, that's all you'll get. Highly insulting in my opinion, considering the amount of time I have invested in the process.

Do you want me to go through the posts you have put in my threads and others where you continually knock marantz and then say they only look good? C'mon dangerboy didn't you think I'd pick up on that?

I'm not going to go through your recent marantz rantz and embarass you by posting them. Heaven forbid this isn't the first forum I have been on and I know that unless there is real community, people will swarm an "outsider/newbie" by flaming, trolling and such. I'm starting to see that and to be quite honest with you, am surprised considering what a great product Polk makes!

This is about what sounds the best to the user. There are too many variables to consider to make a definitive, and this might come as a shock to you, opinion on what is good. It is impossible. Hell I know people who are floored by a $50 logitech speaker setup!

That being said, let's agree to disagree. I apolgise if my angry pm upset you. Perhaps we should just delete the thread and move on.

edit I haven't got this riled up since I discovered what a newsgroup troll was. dang you alt.net.whatever!

so anyhoo, I can say that about Spokane, I used to live up in Elk. Now if that isn't hick town I don't know what is.

The editing of posts was all in fun. Hey, if you can't take it, don't dish it. Besides, aren't we getting off track here with the issue of "a Marantz just looks good?"

Here's a taste of Marantz on another board:

"I've heard alot of good hype on the Yamaha rx-v2600, but I've heard some negatives as far as music is concerned. I've seen some good reviews on HK and Marantz. Looking for some input from owners. My main use of the receiver will be for music, but I'd also like to be able to at least add surround later (but movie audio quality not a priority).
    Replys With Quotes
"the nicest sounding $1000 receiver I've seen/heard is the Marantz SR7500."

"I don't own one, but I did consider it when looking. I eventually decided to get the SR8500 whenever I have the cash."

"Reviewers compared it's sound to that of seperates. It's a steal of a deal. Keep in mind your connectivity needs for now and future. But, you listen if possible and decide."

"Marantz is a good place to start in general though. Music was the main reason why I keep buying Marantz"

"Marantz is a great choice for a new receiver. IMO, they are hands down the nicest looking units as well. I didn't think anything could top the looks of the new Elites, but then I saw the new Marantz line. Yummm."

"My choices for best sounding receivers would be Marantz (my first home theater utilized a 5.1 channel model from five or six years ago) and NAD. For sound quality it is hard to beat either brand."

These are recent posts and relative. And this from people who have over 4000 posts on other boards. Say what you will about my tactic of making lemonade out of lemons, ie'; people who say your brand is **** etc and then I rewrite their quote. Big freakin deal.

So taking into account your previous posts about Marantz, which is the issue to begin with, I don't think I was wrong in being sensitive about my purchase. I do believe you were slamming me very subtly. I do admit I was on fire with the pm, but I already apologised for that and that's all I have to say.

BTW I am not basing my purchase on the reviews. Let me just say that. It was hours and hours of listening every chance I got.

Does "Samiam" stand for something that is really crazy that I am just missing here? Very entertaining.

While I don't think the Marantz will be a bad choice, I just don't understand the obsession with it. I certainly wouldn't get that defensive with my purchase choices - I study, listen, listen, guess, and listen, until I am comfortable with my buying choices. For some reason, I never feel the need to defend my decisions. Personally, I wouldn't start railing on someone who hinted at it's beauty over it's braun...

That's a pretty wide brush you are painting with when you say, "I certainly wouldn't get that defensive..." Am I supposed to be you?

Look, I am not saying that Marantz is the best out there, far from it. I am defending myself. I have quoted others, and that's hardly obsessive.

I have the HK 630. It is less setup-friendly than the Pioneer Elite I have in my home theater, but the sound is sweet! It seems like there are always a few HKs on the market. I bought mine on Audiogon.
