Stands for Lsi 9's

Just as the heading says for those of you running Lsi 9's up front what height are your stands?

If someone could do a measurement from the bottom of the enclosure to the center of the tweeter I'd be very greatful. I'd like to get the stands before I get the 9's so I'm ready to go.

I dont know the height to the tweeter, but I got a medium mass stand (fillable) from parts express. I got the 24" stand and it works like a charm for listening while seated. puts the tweet right at ear level.

I use LSi9s as surrounds. In order to get an unobstructed path I needed 36" stands. I got custom made Skylan stands with extra large bases, two tubes for mass loading, and custom tops to fit the footprint of the LSi9. Cost me less than alot of speaker stands and are truly custom made for my 9s. They look good and perform well and Noel will really talk to you and make sure you are getting what you need. I hightly recoment this route.

I mass loaded with layers of sand and shot so that I could get good mass from the shot and good damping from the sand. I filled them about half way on two tubes each. It is important to have a stable stand for LSi9s becase they weigh in at around 32 pounds each.

Thanks for the reply's. I had pretty much guessed 24" stands would be about perfect. Seems there are lot's of threads on Lsi 9's lately. These will be replacing my RTA-11t's and I hope the 9's can produce the same scale and dynamics as my floor standers. I know the 9's will be much better on vocals and much more refined but I'm worried about going from a large floor stander to a modest bookshelf. We'll see, at least I get to demo them for a couple weeks to see how they work out.

I do not think you will be disappointed in the 9's. Nice clear sound for HT and music is very good. I own 23" in the front and will do 30" in the back for the LSiFX's.

Loved the 9s, I would like to hear your great setup one day! I just realized you lived near me.

Second, I would choose 24" stands - make sure you get a stand that has some heft-supporting ability to support those 33lb beasties.

Fill those stands. I used approx. 32-34 lbs of lead shot for each stand. Very, very solid.

You're welcome anytime Joey, you just have to haul that Pilnius with you if you ever come over. What school in Chicago are you attending? I live in Rockford which is about a hour or so (depending on the insane traffic) from DT Chicago. DKG999 is also around here and amazingly we've never set up a time to get together .

Well I have only 1 concern with the 9's and that's their ability to match the scale and dynamics of a recording the same as my RTA's. I know the virtue's of the 9's as far as smoothness, lack of grain and killer vocal dynamics, almost completely colorless/boxless sound, etc., but I have a mental block when it comes to bookshelf speakers providing the same oomph as a large floorstander. For the record I'm not a sub kinda guy, musical or not so that's not an option. My listening room is 12' x 18' so we'll see how it works out.

So I'll audition these in my listening space w/my electronics and see what the final decision is. I'm actually quite excited to do some side by side comparing in my own listening environment. Been a long time since I've done that.

H9, I built my stands at 30 1/2" That places the tweeter at exactly 38" from the floor, right at ear level from my seating position. (within an inch, or so)

My room is 17x23, I sit around 16 feet back, which is a bit far, but imaging is still very good.

I have been pleasantly suprised with what the 9s produce for bookshelf speakers. I was somewhat amazed that the bass response (as measured) easily extended down pas 40hz before rolling off. Given the official -3db levels quoted by polk I had expected it to roll of somwhere between 50 and
60hz. They do need a bit of eqing to get the most out of them but I think they are great value for the money.

Thanks, I ordered these. $56.00 shipped to my door is a great deal. If I decide not to keep the 9's then I can use these stands in the office/computer rig as I needed stands for those anyways.

Encouraging thanks. These will be used in simple 2 channel system. Pre-amp has no tone controls and I really don't believe in Eq'ing or tone controls, but hey that's just me.

NO to eq. NO to tone. Run the 9s the way they were meant to be.

I will take you up on your offer one of these days. I live in the Loop itself (DT Chicago) during most of the week, BUT I do come home (parents') on the weekends regularly (by Lake in the Hills/Huntley area) which is about 30 minutes from Rockford straight west down I90 (I live by the Prime Outlet mall if you go towards Chicago via I90).

And.... I'll bring my Plinius and whichever toob preamp I end up with over to your place.

I'm still in stand limbo with my 9's. Still using Premiere 26-inchers with some large LP boxes stacked on top to get the height up. Based my goofy room and listening position, I really need a height of 34 inches. They're at 31 now, but the tweeters aren't *quite* at ear level. This is tough to find. I actually ordered and got some Sanus 34-inchers from Cinema Shop, but there was a misprint on the web page and the top plate was VERY tiny. I keep looking, but haven't found just the right thing yet. Any suggestions?
