I have these on my watch list also. I don't think I could buy them because i would then have to sleep in the garage.
Does anyone know what they are?
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
They are model 9's.
In the era of the original Monitor 7, and 10, and Mini Monitor - Polk was asked to make a Bose 901 copy. The 'Bozo' was developed, but never realized due to the obvious legal ramifications with Bose. Polk was left with a boatload of 4 inch drivers = the Monitor 9's you see here.

They went for 76 dollars + shipping - what were they worth?

Cool factor mostly. Personally, they sound like hammered ****, but the cool factor is off the charts.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

I bagged my pair for ~80 bucks as well.....
As Russ noted, the sound is suspect but, the are MUY cool.

Another pair up for grabs. I think these are the pair that have been on Florida's CL for several months.

Aren't those the ones where the speaker wire has a screw post on the bottom of the speaker??

Yup...
Cool factor is pretty high but that's about it.

The owner changed the tweets on them. They came with Piezo tweeters. If anyone wants a set, I have them in my closet. I never hooked them up and probably never will.

Those are some old school Polks!, WOW they look really sweet.
Las, maybe you could buy them and part em out.
JK! of course.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Good catch. I thought that tweeter looked funny. It might be a transitional Model 9A with a Model 9 cab. Someone here recently posted a photo of 9A's with a peerless tweeter and I remember it having a more flush look but can't find it. Here's a photo from and old auction and the current auction for comparison.

I don't beilieve either have the proper tweeter. You can see the circular ring around the tweeter which looks like a match to mine with the Piezo tweets. I don't see the circle around the pair with the peerless tweeters. Maybe Polk changed at some part.

The Model 9A (top) with velcro tabs and what appears to be serial #44256 looks normal but the bottom current auction serial #44021 is a curiosity. All of the original 9's that I've seen have a round hole in the cab for the piezo tweeter. Grilles were glued on so it's possible that this may have been a one-off or transitional model. 9A's have been mentioned as the first version of this model with removable grilles and every one spotted in the last few years has also had the early peerless tweeter.
