About a month ago, my 2-channel amp went into protection mode while playing a music video at high volume. I had done this many times before for 2 years without having this happen. I took the amp in to be looked at. The repair guy said he replaced the protection circuit but could not see any other problems. I had already wondered if it was a problem with my speaker since the right channel of the amp always ran warmer than the left and on this occassion it was really hot. I switched speakers, and when I did this the left channel got hot with the right speaker plugged into it. I am assuming this means something like the driver or crossover is bad. I have not picked up the amp yet since having it looked at, but I'm suspecting that the right channel speaker may be dipping down below 4 ohms and putting too much of a load on the amp. I know that the the LSi25's can dip below 4 ohms, but my question is HOW LOW can they go? Would it be unusual for them to dip to say 1 or 2 ohms for any length of time? I suspect that I'll need to send the speaker in for repair, but am trying to troubleshoot as much as I can before going to so much hassle since shipping it from Alaska to San Diego would not be cheap! Could it be time to check with a volt meter? Thanks for any suggestions.

Under certain conditions they can dip as low as 2 ohms, and I may have seen a report hear or there of momentary dips to 1.5 ohms.

Are you running them full range or do you have the sub portion split out?
