Using your receiver will probably be fine as a preamp. The amp section is usually more important. A seperate preamp/amp will give you the best performance. For 2 channel only, a nice integrated will work ok too. Check out the used market for the Parasound 850 pre, it can be found for under $200 is has had very good reviews. A giant killer of sorts. Good Luck.

I would personally suggest being patient and looking to see if you run across any good deals on separates or, as venomclan said, a good integrated. I don't know what your budget is, but you should be able to get a decent pre and tube amplification (if you go with Klipsch), or a tube integrated (again, if you go with the Klipsch), for no more than $700, and possibly for as little as $4-500.

Just for instance, I bought my Parasound P/HP-850 and some ASL Wave 8 tube monoblocks off the FM here for a total of $590. You should be able to put together a similar system for a similar price.

Simple question. If you had a cool million bucks, what would you do with it?
