FS: Adcom and Maggies

For Sale is an Adcom / Magnepan System. The Adcom electronics are GTP-400 Pre-amp tuner, GCD-600 CD player and GFA 545II amplifier. I am selling these because I am leaving the hobby to devote more time to my family and my seven year old is really into trains. My wife is into singing and if I can help her with that I want her to know that I am there for her (I am a musician myself). The preamp is in excellent condition. I would rate it an 8/10 on the Audiogon scale simply because of age. I was having some static issues with system but was able to track it down to the interconnects. The CD player I would rate a 7/10 because I do not have the remote. The power amp is in excellent condition. I would rate it 8/10 due to age. Now for the Maggies, they are the SMGb. They are considered small for the Magnepan line. They have a surprising amount of bass for a Quasi ribbon / Planar-Magnetic Driver in my room. If you want a system that has very nice imaging but takes up very little floor space, these are the speakers for you. They are in good condition 5/10 due to age, a couple of nicks on the wood panels and two small holes I found in the screens as I was taking pics of them. You really do not notice the holes or the blemishes on the side from your listening position. However, I am trying to disclose everything. I will need to post Nicks on Maggies later. They were too big. Pics have been added.

Cables are not included.

I am the second owner for all of this equipment and do not have original boxes. However, I am willing to buy boxes and pack them well enough for shipping.

    Jockos - I'm not sure if you're reading but the CDP should be a perfect match for the Adcom stuff you picked up from me. The pre-amp remote has CDP functions if I recall correctly.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Just curious, how much would you deduct if someone were to pickup locally from you? Shipping those speakers can't be cheap.

    Edit: To clarify, my interest is in the whole system.

    Bill, according to what I read on the Fedex 4 day shipping is around 40 bucks. They only weigh 20 lbs apiece. The total shipping to LA was around 106. I want to clear at least $600 for the system.

    Edit. 40bucks is wrong. I wanted to put this up here so that everyone would know this is not accurate.

    Did you enter the actual dimensions of the speakers? Might go into an oversized category despite the light weight.

    Anyway, I was asking because my brother lives outside Detroit and he is coming to see me in about a month. If I went for these, I would have him pickup the whole system and bring them on down. Not to save money, but I hate risking shipping damage. Let me think for a short bit.

    Yeah the Speaks are 48 Tall so with shipping crates I was thinking around 52.

    To be honest I have never shipped anything like this. I read the post at the top which made an implication that I had to give a shipped price.

    Xsmi - You know you can order factory boxes for those right? Just call Magnepan and get a pair of MMG boxes, should be about $40.

    Don't worry, I'll never let my SRS 2s(maybe for some 2.3TLs) or my Monitor 7As leave the house.:)

    I've been wanting to get a set of Maggies, MLs, or Innersounds in the house since last years PFest, they just don't show up with a decent driving distance from me very often and Toledo is only about 4 or 5 hours from me, I believe.



    I'll pass on these right now. I'm gonna wait for some 1.6s or larger.

    What was my problem before? Probably that I had a lot of stuff in flux and wasn't sure where to put a pre to use. At these prices there's not much to think about anymore. I'll take the cd player AND the pre if it falls to me. Although I probably don't deserve it now anyway.

    Thank you,it's going to be part of 3 vintage 2ch systems that I'm putting together for each of my daughters for Christmas,,I only need one more pre and cd,,I've got 3 adcom 535's,mon 5's,7'c and 11t's,,first time I've ever done my shopping this early and had fun doing it. All the speaks will have new caps and resistors,sc interconnects and so on. My thanks to all on this forum whom I purchased from.
