I just bought Onkyo's tx sr603x (90 wpc) when several days later i noticed the 703 on sale for $100 more (after taxes and shipping). My question is, is the 703's extra's (THX and 100wpc) worth the extra $100? I have time to return the 603 so that's no problem there.

The 10 wpc really is nothing to get excited about. The THX is nice. I don't really see the point in going through any trouble making this swap from what the web site shows. See if you can go some where and listen to both.

The 703 has pre-outs, should you ever want to connect an external amplifier in the future.

..and if you need it, the 703 has phono input.

703, because of the pre-amp outputs.

It still irks me that Onkyo doesn't have them on their lower models. HK and Denon usually do at the same price points.

Unfortunately, the 703 went off sale, so that option is no longer available to me. It has me thinking though, that I should also upgrade to HDMI on the receiver too...

yea, if you want a good receiver that can do it all (including blu-ray and hd-dvd audio via hdmi) you should look into the Denon AVR-2807. If you cant afford that I would wait a few months for onkyo to release there new receiver that is in line with the denon.

EDIT: Also when the new onkyo comes out, check out circuitcity's web site. they always have the higher end onkyo units on sale. you might have to check a few weeks in a row, but they will drop the price online.
