    http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/db212/

    Says right at the top:

    db212-2
Two db124 12-inch subwoofers in a perfectly optimized enclosure.
Put Your Car Audio System On Steroids

So, i guess that's a YES, to your question ;)

    According to that same page:

"Single Voice Coil 4 Ohm drivers wired in parallel for a net 2-Ohm load, optimum for today's Class D subwoofer amplifiers."

The DVC version stands for Dual Voice Coil. Instead of having one voice coil (electro-magnet), the DVC's have two. The benefit - you can wire them for lower ohm loads, which can give you more power (if your amp can take it). Polk took the two single voice coil db124's and wired them in parallel, producing a 2 ohm load for your amp. Each db124 is a 4 ohm load by itself.

If you're going to run 4 subs, you should be able to stick with the single voice coil versions of the db124's for your future purchase. If you wire all 4 in parallel, you'll get 1 ohm into some bad-**** amp that's stable at that load. Alternately, you could run a c500.1 to a pair of them wired in parallel (just like your db212 box) at 2 ohms. You could buy two c500.1's to run 4 subs. Given each db124 handles 360W, and the c500.1 delivers over 500W at 2 ohms, that should be a decent match-up.

Sounds like you're going for quite a bit of SPL, to be running 4 12". What car is this going into?

Yeah, the grand marquis would definitely hold a lot of bodies in the trunk :D

SPL is Sound Pressure Level. There are competitions as to who has the "loudest" subs. That's SPL... SQ is Sound Quality. A lot of folks into that as well. I'm more on the SQ side. I like my subs, but don't want them too terribly loud. Just going for a good mix of sounds for my music type, which is mostly rock.

Polk c500.1's are about $400, depending where you buy them. If you're happy with your Sony, stick with it. A lot of this stuff is opinion/preference. I got my Polk amp on clearance, so it was $150, instead of $400. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. If you can afford more expensive amps, they're worth it. Polk certainly makes great stuff, but there are others as well. I have an almost all-Polk setup, and i'm quite happy with it. I've been using cardomain.com for a lot of my mail-order stuff. They have pretty good prices on Polk stuff and whatever else you may want. I got all my power/speaker/signal wiring through them at a reasonable price.

The shape of the box doesnt affect the SQ of the sub as long as the interior volume is the same.
