Will this setup work? 5channel amp with 4ohm/8ohm load?
Ok, I may get the Rotel RB-1075 instead of the 1070. The reason is that I plan to upgrade to LSiC and LSi7s to complete the 5.1 system. Right now I have LSi9s which are my primary speakers since I most often just listen to music in stereo.
Well my RB-1050 doesn't quite have enough power for the LSi9s so I was going to upgrade to the RB-1070. That takes me from 2x70 to 2x130. However, Rotel also has a 5x120 amp for only $300 more than the two channel. This would give me the upgrade path I'm looking for to the LSiC and LSi7s.
The caveat. Right now I have a CS2 center and Monitor 30s in the back. They're obviously 8ohm speakers. Can I move them off the receiver and run them on the 5x120 amp? I'd have to match the levels of the speakers but I can do that without issues. According to Polk's specs, the difference in efficiency between the 9s and 30s is only 1db.
Anyways, will the amp handle the loads at different ohms? Am I risking anything?

Sweet. I should just go with the 5 channel and be done with it, rather than be stuck later when I get the LSiC and 7s.
Also, I can bi-wire my fronts using 4 of the 5 channels and run the center off the other channel for now. Rotel says it's a great application for bi-wiring. Do you guys think that's going to be ok?
That'd be 2 120w channels to each speaker. Shouldn't I just bi-amp them. Take off the plate on 9s and run one channel to each input on the speaker? I assume in that setup one channel would be for the highs, one for the lows? Is that how the internal cross-over works? Sorry still a newb at this. -
I believe the top binding posts are for higher fequencies and the bottom is for lower and the bottom dont kick in unless the lower freq. is played. So thats how the power gets used, I think

Well I just got back and hooked up the RMB-1075. Tomorrow I'm going to run new wiring (equal length, 4 wire) and run these things on the 1075's front and rear channels. Should be pretty nice when it's done.
