SVS PB12+ first impressions

Yesterday my new SVS PB 12 + arrived.
The previous "best" sub I have owned is a Veldoyne Minivee. 6 of them would fit inside my new SVS, the thing is huge! It is gorgeously finished in a nice warm cherry veneer, looks like a nice piece of strange furniture. It sits in a 20' x 25' room with carpet over concrete floor, bare drywall and a 7.5' drop ceiling. New house - no treatments yet.
With the LFE from my AVR connected and a crossover of 80Hz to start (SVS crossover disabled), I turned it on and set the gain at about 1/4 way up. I already knew what I would start with. The first sounds out of my new SVS were the "Darla glass tap" scene from Finding Nemo. I left the sub's ports opened at the 20Hz tune.
I was expecting a lot but was completely unprepared for what came out of that sub. It felt as if the room was collapsing with every tap of her finger. HOLY CRAP! There was no way I needed to turn the gain up any further. I must have replayed that 20 times, as I was in a state of disbelief at what this sub was doing. Turned it off, played the scene, eww! On - mayhem!
I had a vendor over at the house to add some landscape and deck lighting. Turned out to be from my high school, new my brothers. I told him "you gotta hear this", and the Darla scene kind of freaked him out, he actually crouched down like the ceiling was falling.
So I spent the next hour or so listening to various soundtracks , U571, Fast and Furious, etc... grinning from ear to ear. Then some multichannel music and even some Cypress Hill. BOOM!
Unbelievable.
Today I find the best spot for frequency response, chart the SPL levels and set the parametric equalizer on it. I can't believe that its only going to get better.

This morning when I go over to the new house (we're not fully moved in yet) I'm going to take a pic of it alongside the Minivee. Should be good for a chuckle!HT/music rig

That's pretty impessive looking. That Rti10 in the background looks like an anorexic super model compared to that sub.

WOW. Just WOW!!

dam that is sexy and i bet it hits like a frait train.
ps want to throw down? pink of your sub vs mine lol i bet it would be close
j/k but i have herd those and that is a wise investment -
You guys should hear the Dr. Chesky's Surround Sound show with that thing tuned to the 16Hz setting. The "organs and chimes" will actually make you feel a little uncomfortable. (and I kept looking around for Vincent Price)HT/music rig

How's the SVS cherry finish match to the RTI's cherry finish?
By my samples the SVS looked much more red. That's the main reason I went with the textured black finish, but I'd be interested in seeing a side by side comparison. -
Cherry comes in lots of different colors and shades. The dye/stain used on this particular veneer is more of a Pennsylvania Cherry, which has a good bit of red in it. Cherry darkens substantially over time, so the strong red overtone that you see when recently finished will change to a warm, darker hue as time (and exposure) goes on. I do a lot of woodworking in cherry and customers are always suspect at first - you can never match a cherry finish, but time can do it for you. Even setting a piece of cherry in the sun for a few hours will appreciably darken it. (and a lot us do just that before applying a finish)
It is a nice grade of veneer, and bookmatched well with perfect joints.HT/music rig

That is subjective.
What's more important is that it doesn't have to match to sound good. -
Whoa! That thing is HUGE! It looks almost as big as your Panny plasma. I hope you're in good with your new neighbors.Polk collection:
