Look at it this way, Joey -- in the grand scheme of all things audio -- what freakin' difference does it make? Just pick one. You can't go wrong either way, and without A/Bing them, you're not going to know what you're missing anyway.

    Early...

    I know man... I know...

But in the grand scheme of Joey, I need to make the best purchase possible.

And I think the Plinius is a better buy. It is essentially a $6000 amp for $2700 with shipping and paypal fees... plus the guy is a dealer and he will send me an invoice and register me for the FULL 5 year warranty.

I cant go wrong with this guy.

With the MF, it's used and I have no warranty. Who knows what'll happen if the amp blows something.... a $7500 retail amp is going to be a b*tch to repair.

I'm going with the Plinius.... and I've returned the Rogue Metis preamp and I'm going to look for a one that's a step up.

Atleast with separates, I can work and tweak my system with the tube pre... who knows. Maybe one day I'll end up with some Hovland preamps...

Cool, Joey. Glad to see you've made a decision.

Yeah, get rid of the Rogue. It's fugly.

What's your budget for a preamp? Perhaps we can make your life a living hell by recommending a bunch of tube preamps!

One thing you should keep in mind. These equipments are not going to run away on you. They'll always be around. So eventually you will hear both.

Like you said, with the MF, you're stuck with that sound and with the Plinius, you have more flexibility.

But don't listen to me. It's just my opinion and lack of experience with gear at that caliber.

Congratulations on the new amp purchase. I think you have made the correct decision in completing a step towards your final destination.

Now comes the hardest part; waiting to be able to purchase a pre-amp of similar quality. I would recommend starting to look at a matching preamp from the same manufacturer. Unfortunately I am not familiar with Plinius components, but I would suspect it might give you the liquid midrange of tubes with the clarity and detail of SS at the frequency extremes.

This is what I experienced when upgrading from a Rotel preamp last year.

    Enjoy the new purchase.

    Guys and Gals,

I narrowed my amp search to the MF KW500 and the Plinius 102SA. I was close to landing the MF KW500... but I thought about it and I didnt like the idea of being tied down. Sure the KW500 was cheap at $3000-ish, but it still got up to about $3400-ish with shipping and paypal fees.... and looking at the 'gon, the KW500 dont sell as fast, even at a lower than usual price.

Then I turned to my original plan, going full CLASS A with the Plinius. A $6000 amp has to be good for something and it has such a good following everywhere. The dealers I talked to regarding the Plinius say that it is the best amp they sell under $10K - bar none. This is with Krell, Hovlands, MF, and Halcros in the mix.

So anyway, I got an even better deal for a brand new Plinius SA102 with FULL 7 year warranty straight from a dealer. The deal is better than the MF deal since I get no warranty with the MF... and it being $7500, it might be a pain the a$$ to fix up if ever needed.

So... the Plinius is in the mail.. should be here by Wednesday!! :D:D

Looking forward to doing an A/B comparo with the Rotel RB1090!

Next up, deciding on the preamp.... and I'm not worried if I cant make out with a super hiend preamp this time around, I have time to spare.... :) .

Thanks for everything everybody... and sorry if I didnt follow the advices of some (including you Sean!). :(
