I am upgrading my whole system. My budget is 6,000. I was thinking...
3000=TV
Hd-dvd player=500
Yamaha receiver=500
Surge Protection=300
Dvd player/cd player/sacd/dvd-a audio=300
X-box 360=300
Rti-6=backs
Rti-10=fronts
Center????
Instalation=
Anyone have any suggestions? It is a good size living room.

I would go with the Outlaw 970 (pre) & 7125 (Amp) combo deal for $1600 Instead of a $500 receiver
forget the SACD/HD Player Player and wait for a Universal HD disc player

I would forget the HD DVD player (still to new for me) and steel $100 off the surge protector. This will get you in the $1000 range for the receiver or a used pre/amp combo.Michael

LSi9,
There is NOTHING definite on a universal HD DVD/ Blu-Ray player. Who knows when we will ever see that?
If you really want to take early avantage of HD, I'd go with Toshiba's HD-A1 which can be had for under $400. The Toshiba has wonderful upscaling of SD DVD via HDMI of course, and you can play CD's. The only drawback is it is not SACD/DVD-A compatible. But you can pretty much get best of both worlds right now for a bargain if you ask me.

C'mon even you have to admit it is eventual? even though under $400 isn't alot.

Not really?
Unless Sony eventually gives in? I doubt it! And that works both ways also.

dont sit around waiting on the HD DVD(A1 is outstanding), as mentioned here before the format is awesome and has surpassed Blu-Ray thus far. As for the AVR you could go Yammie with a 3ch power amp. Installation should include decent cables, zip ties, etc for cable management. As for the center the CSi5 is a no brainer given you have the space. You didnt mention a sub in your setup, look into SVS/Velodyne and make your choice. The PB12 Plus 2 has been in the spot light here lately. This may put you over 6k, but your home theater will grow and change as long as youre into the hobby so prepare the wallet.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I love the Toshiba!
It's the best part of my HT. If you have an HDTV, it's a NO brainer! I have a hard time watching my regualr dvd's, and I will not buy any more either! Long live HD DVD!!
