Wasn't sure where to put this thread but anywho. I had just bought the H/k 240 and I'm very happy with this reciever. But I have noticed the past week or so, whenever I just say change tracks or mute the reciever, I hear a popping sound come from the SL speaker. Its definitely the reciever because I switched speaks and still come from SL. I haven't noticed any difference in sound quality. Does anyone know what this is and if it will be a real problem in the future?

thanks

Don't say that! I just got rid of my Onyko with the understanding that the HK240 would be a better all-around receiver...

I'll keep an eye out for this when my receiver arrives tomorrow.

    that's funny :D

I don't have any personal experience with HK's but my roommate in college spent a pretty penny on one and he was pissed because it was always shutting down from presumably getting too hot. He had to set up a big fan next to it to get it to run without shutting down.

I started selling HK's just before they switched to the 'blue dial design'. I just didn't like the physical build of them or the menu navigation. Then two of our demo units' (one of which rarely got used) volume knobs started going bad.

    Tommyboy,

Since you just purchased it, can you trade it for another in case it is an electrical problem with the receiver? Sounds like you have some electrical interference leaking into your SL speaker out they could be the sign of worse problems in the future. I know if you are like me, you will be bothered for as long as you own that defective receiver if you continously hear those noises. See if the store will trade with you.

Of course all of the above advice is on the assumption you got it from a local store, using decent speaker cable that is shielded, and that you are not running your speaker cables over anything that will cause electrical interference to be in your cables (e.g., electrical cords, other components, etc).
Good luck and keep us informed on how you fix the problem.

    Thanks Holydoc for the reply.

6ave.com only has a 21 day return policy:mad: . But surprisingly it doesn't matter. I was ready to bring it to a local HK service center to get it fixed(if needed). But HK says that my product can just be exchanged for a new one. I am still waiting for a reply but hopefully everything works out fine.

When I had my onkyo HTIB, and had a problem with the reciever(it was also a prob with the SL output:confused: ) . Had to drive about 20-25 miles just to get it fixed. I like this much better:) .

Ill keep you posted (if your interested:) )

My favorite AVRs are Sony ES builds and Denons. Both are of excellent quality. Sorry to hear about the HK though, Onkyos look good also, never owned one but from what I seen in Japan, they look sweet.
