its actually made from the bottom part of an rta-12, without the crossover and tweeter mounted on top. you dont see many of these around. if one popped up local by me, I would grab it and check it out.

yeah yeah, its definitly not a home theater sub, but 30's is plenty for music/2 channel. and with 2 smaller drivers and a passive radiator design, I imagine it would do a pretty good job in a budget 2 channel system

I'm positive that it's quite musical.

One of the Bros. McGowan uses one and IIRC, thinks highly of it.

There are a LOT of subs that cost more that don't hit below 30hz, sport.

Well, obviously I can't comment on its performance since I haven't heard it. That leaves me to commenting on its specs, which I did. And in today's world of SVS this and SVS that, dual SVS here, and IB sub there, 30Hz isn't that low.

Now, if it's musical and has had some good testimonials...then that's awesome. I wasn't saying it's a horrible sub. Just doesn't seem to reach that low, relatively speaking.

Oh, and I think your first reply was sufficient, making your second one quite superfluous. ;)

    Superfluous?

    Pot, kettle, black?

You want to go back through and see how many zero value added posts you have??

I'm sure you are a nice lad and so forth but at some point, you've got to realize that there are times when the wise thing to do is put a sock in it.

Also, other than HT applications (which this was not designed for, obviously) there ain't much going on below 30hz so, it's really a moot point.

I honestly didn't know that. I figured the more well-regarded subs, and certainly most of the SVS subs, reached below 30Hz. Guess I learned something. Thanks! :)

Thanks! Maybe I will be able to at least say, 'Hey, there's a musical sub!' the next time one gets mentioned...in another 8 years. :p

This is a nice form of low frequency enhancement. :)

I've got one of those, purchased new at Soundscape in Baltimore. S/N 11, IIRC. I think scans of the owners manual are or were posted here, someplace. If you can't find 'em, and if they'd be of interest to anyone, PM me.

i used to own the rta 12s and still have an LF-14 that i use in the garage powered by an old hsu subwoofer amp using the amp adjustable crossover set around 50 Hz. IIRC, the rta 12s were good to about 27Hz -3dB. i wouldn't recommend it for home theatre, but the air movement achieved while playing the bach toccata and fugue in d minor is quite satisfactory, thank you, especially since i got the hsu amp for only $75.

They are pretty cool. I'd imagine you would fairly easy modify a set of RTA-12s for the job.

I once saw an Ebay ad selling big Maggies along with a pr. of these subs. He had these behind the maggies and I still remember his comment in the ad,"the sound doesn't get much better than this" That was years ago but that's when I learned about these subs.
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

    Not worth it.

I got one last year with the purchase of my 2.3tl's and it's very disappointing. Tried running it along with my 2.3tls and 1C's and it sounds better without the sub. Here a pic.

Looks like the bottom half of a pair of SDA-1's/1A's, but without the particle board stand.

I'd love to try a pair of these sometime as stereo subs with my Monitor 7's. I'd love a pair of these simply for the cool factor.

If the bass output of these things is even remotely close to my SDA 2A's(with a very similar driver layout), then it's gotta be good. Obviously, it's not an HT sub...but for music, I can't imagine it being too bad.

That would make a great "speaker stand" for a SDA-CRS assuming they had close to the same footprint.

Nah; the CRS's are a good bit wider judging just by driver separation. With the right positioning, the CRS's have plenty of bass, too. Not as much as SRS's, but very respectable for being in such a small cabinet.

I've always visualized my Monitor 7A's sitting on top of a pair of LF-14's. That'd be a sexy sight.
