RTi8 vs. R50

Which is better? I have an 18 x 20 great room w/18 foot ceiling. Also, R15 rears with Infinity 12" sub and Infinity center, HK125 receiver.Also looking for best prices. Thanks!

    If you are staying with the HK 125 receiver, then the R50s is the better choice. The R50s will blend nicely with the R15s and they are easy to drive power wise. Best price on these are at Fry's (B&M) and Outpost.com. Typically you can get them for under $100 each when they go on sale. Ebay always has someone selling them too and going prices are reasonable if you can't find them at Fry's or Outpost. I have a pair of R50s and they work really well with my needs at the moment.

    The RTi8 is certainly a better speaker but you'll need way more power to drive them.

    I just did a comparison...had the RTi8s for about a month. I generally agree with ivansfo about the power requirements, but the 8s are quite a bit nicer, soundstage and imaging. You probably can't do them justice with HK125. My HK235 was adequate with the R50s...better with a cheap 2 channel amp.

    Just curious...how much power is desirable to drive the
    RTi8s? Those are the speakers I have, and I'll be buying a new receiver this weekend. I'm leaning towards the Yamaha RXV659, which is 100WPC.

    Should be fine...my son just got a 5960 last week and it's got plenty of balls. I was running the 8s with an Audiosource Amp/One 80wpc. More is always better.

    I'm trying to read through everything to not bug any of you all but I'm finding conflicting answers. Will my AVR125 hurt or otherwise not perform well enough to get Rti8's. I really love the sound of those speakers and can get a set of floor models for about $500 w/tax. I listened to some monitor 50's at Circuit City and they weren't shabby either. Or, is there a budget minded amp that I can get to work with my AVR and eliminate all questions. I want performance for movies and music.

    The Rti8's are far superior to the Monitor 50's. I'd grab those floor models. How many watts/channel does your AVR125 drive?

    The AVR125 is 45wpc in surround mode and 55wpc in stereo.

    The RTi8s will sound better than either the R50s or M50s. I don't believe the HK125 has pre outs, so you're kind of limited. The 8s won't sound their best without more power. Try it for awhile and save up for a more powerful receiver with pre-outs.

    I just got some rit6's for my room and they sound awesome. Get the rti8's and enjoy, your sub should handle the rest of the bass that's missing from it.

    I am looking at the rti8 also, how many watts are required for these ? I have a onkyo 503 with 75 watts, will that be ok or should i just get the monitor 50's instead.

    consensus on rti8's is that they shine in ht while some say they are too bright for prolonged music listening, i have rti70's and they are not nearly as bright and listen to them for about 6 hours a day on average (while doing homework in my apartment). i personally like the rti8's but prefer the 70's over them

    only get the monitor 50s if you NEVER want to upgrade the reciever, otherwise get the rti8s with a better reciever with preouts.

    Your Onkyo 503 will drive the RTi8s but I don't think it bring out the full potential of these speakers. I went down this road before with my Onkyo 701 (100w/channel) and I personally felt it just wasn't enough power to bring the RTi8s alive.

    I may try it again once I get my receiver upgraded.

    I got them last night. I figured it was only $100 more than the Monitor 50's so I went with the better quality. Hell, I even got them to throw in the extended warranty! I haven't had time to play yet, hopefully this weekend. How far up the HK ladder do I have to go? There is an AVR510 in the local paper for sale. Any thoughts on that or knowledge would be appreciated!

    The 510 should be much better, 75wpc (HK watts) I think. Make sure it has pre-outs.

    My HK 335 has been driving my 8s now for almost a year and I am quite happy....that is till I get all my outlaw monos bought and received....then I'll let you know! But back to the HK with the 8's yes the higher watt receiver will drive them fine. Not to it's full potential but you won't be sorry.

    I've got a denon 3805 with my RTi8's. It seems to handle anything and everything I throw at them. I have had my 8's for over a year now, and I can safely say, they flat out ROCK!

    I don't know how my Denon compares to your HK, but if they are even close, you'll be super happy!
