Is it worth buying a new dvd player? I was just going to wait a year and buy a hd-dvd player when prices come down and reviews are better.
Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a Sony DVP-NS75H to hold me over. I am going to wait for the dust to settle between the HD formats. It was $ 129 at BB a little while ago and I had a $100 gift card. There were other cheaper upconverts but I was trying to stay with Sony hoping one of my other remotes would control it.

I have been pleased with it so far. Not much to these things anyway, infact got ripped off buying a HDMI cable that actually cost more than the player.
I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

Considering that the A1 can now be had for under $400 (or there abouts) it's not worth waiting if you plan to buy in to HD-DVD. The A2 coming out this month does not have 5.1 analog outs for 5.1 TrueHD, it does have HDMI 1.2a if you have a receiver to pair it up with though.

The A1 is being rated as one of the best upscaling machines out there for the price, beating out the Oppo. It does a fantastic job, really fantastic.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

The Toshiba does have bang up video quality, but it's soooo slow booting, loading, etc. I'd personally wait for next gen unless there's some titles you really want to see right now.

So you have to wait an additional 45 seconds to watch a movie, no big deal. It takes longer for my FP to warm up so the wait is not big deal.

Damn it Ron got me thinking...

Since more TV's now have HDMI input with optical output should one hook it up this way? HDMI into TV Optical output from TV to AVR? Or the way I have it DirecTV receiver HDMI to TV, Optical from DirecTV box to my AVR. I tried it the other way and it didn't work DD5.1 got nothing at all. It's a TV problem cable problem or some other issue like 1.1 to 1.3 HDMI issue?
