Speaker wires?

Hi,
I am wanting to get better speaker wires and am thinking Anticable. It looks like I can set up the sda-2s for $80 plus a single for the interconnect. I havent read about anything else out there better around the $100 mark. I am looking to smooth out the upper range siblance more. I have replaced the IC and have found the DIY Cardas from welborne labs sound good. I have tried many tubes in the TAD and have found the GE 5 star 5814 tubes to be the best. Most of the other tubes (black and grey plate rca, JJ, EH, airplane 5814, brimar, ect) have too much siblance and so I think it is speaker wire time. Is this the right move or is it something else like the sony cdp?

I, too, have been looking at Anticable, though I have no experience with them. Will be interesting to see what folks have to say about them.

Try using the Search function as I recall reading a few discussion about this in the recent past.

I can only speak from experience but I noticed a very nice difference with my new zebra cable from my old Monster THX, both same size 10 AWG.
Plus the Zebra looks better, got 3 cables for my 3 front channels!

Did you already replace the tweeters for the new silk ones?

I tried the anti-cables (really a clone I made from 12ga magnet wire) & even sold a lot of the wire to some of you guys. I really liked the wire & how it conveyed the music. It was a very rewarding project. But I also always wanted to try Mapleshades's Golden Helix speaker cables. At $85 for an 8' pair I decided to give them a try. Boy am I glad I did, I like them even better than the DIY anti-cables. This guy Pierre from Mapleshade is really bizaar in some of his stuff but he's got the speaker wire down pat. It's real, real thin but just does a super job of letting the music flow. The mids, the high's, & tremendous bass & everything just sounding so right really sold me on these cables. I did make jumper cables from the magnet wire & maybe the combination of the two cables really jelled together. Who the hell knows, all I know is that I love the performance. Will I ever try other cables? Hell yes, after all that's what makes this hobby so much fun. But for now the Golden Helix are staying right where they are.

Absolutely not meant to discourage anyone from DIY or experimentation, that's the enjoyment of this hobby for many! If you want some easy yet reasonable cost alternatives:

Blue Jeans Cable - Beldon 12g or 10g grey wire - on my HT system I can't tell a difference compared to other options and it seems to handle a long run really well.

Canare S411 - this is my spare speaker cable that is hooked up to a NAD reciever and used to test or try out speakers. Very smooth and worked exceptionally well with SDA-2A's.

Signal Cable - the easy way out. Good price, great quality, excellent sound, great service, Club Polk discount, except for a 6' run of AudioQuest Sidewinders connecting my tuner, my entire 2 ch. system is Signal Cable for speaker and IC's. Magnepans are pretty revealing, and the Signal Cable stuff works well with them!

    JMHO!

You'll never get rid of the sibilance while using the Sony cdp or the original SL2000 tweeters. Start there and then work on new cables.

I would get the Signal Cables as a step up. Solid performers and the Owner has been a long time supporter of our Club.

Yes, you need to change the tweeter, it should be done even berfore the wire.

    Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. I did replace the tweeters with the silk ones about a year ago. Helped a ton. I need to change the sig to reflect that. I have always wondered if the sony had anything to do with the siblance. I dont have any quality cdp to compare it to. Maybe its tube cdp time. More to think about. Thanks again.

    Anyone deal with bestdealcables?

Seem to have some good stuff, just a little pricey for me. Right now AVSforum has a powerbuy going on, buy 1, get 1. Mix or match of equal value or less. A little more reasonable, might want to check it out.
