If you have not heard a SACD/DVD-A setup, I suggest not doing so. Once you hear it, the clarity, presence, soundstage, imaging, etc.. you can't go back.
There is a whole massive argument on how to use the surround speakers when remastering in 5.1 multichannel audio, do you make the soundstage wrap around you, putting you in the middle of the music, or do you just them for effects/presence - sort of like Neo:6 Music does. I like to be centered in the music. If all you want is use of the surround speakers for your stereo sound, Neo:6 does a good job of that, but if you want to hear the chorus on Steely Dan's Goucho "Babylon Sisters" sing behind you with such clarity that you'll swear they're literally in the room with you - thats what DVD-A will do. The first time you hear those girls you will be startled.
I'm obviously a multichannel music fan. Don't get started! You'll be buying surrounds to match your mains, ditching those on wall satellites, etc... separate amps for each speaker...
If you're local to Baltimore you can come on up to my new house and hear the setup. It is a real work in progress as the walls are still bare drywall, but you can still hear the shocking difference between standard redbook CD ( 2 channel ) and real high resolution music.
Go over to AVSFORUM.COM and browse through the multichannel music forum for lots more.HT/music rig
