Hi guys. Just wanted some input on speaker choice. As you guys know yamaha runs two extra speakers up front. My question is what type would you run, say a rti4 or fxi3. To me the fx would give a more wide open feel, but just wanted some other input. Im running a csi5, psw505, rti12, and all r15s for the surrounds soon to be rti6. Thanks

    Neither.

First, you gotta determine if presence speakers are necessary. The verdict is still out on that one. Google "presence speakers."

Your next upgrade should be your sub.

That's cool. I've never had experience with the presence speakers on a Yammie. Do they get the full frequency range?

The presence speakers is Yamaha's attempt to bring home sony's SDDS that is a commercial sound field or effect that was never released publically,to me it's not really all that compared to a properly calibrated home theater setup because I have tried it and I was not impressed, but if you insist on using it then try to match your front and center speakers with the presence setup.....

Well what stinks is on the lower model recievers, you can only engage presence or surround rear, not both at a time. The rxz9 can since it has extra amps, in that case i think the presence can add a bit more to the overall sound stage. But back to my original question. Do you think a focused sound of a rti4,6 would be better than the a dispersed sound of a fxi? Keep those thoughts comin. Thanks.

If it helps, I saw a floor model pair of FXi5s on the clearance table at the Towson, MD. Tweeter the other day. They looked fine and had a $100 off pricetag. I'm fighting the urge to get them for myself, would appreciate the help..
