I plan on getting the new Yamaha 2700 (140w x 7) receiver and using it just as a pre/pro in my system. The speakers will be LSi15 towers in front, LSiFX surrounds in back, and the LSiC at the center. The amplifier will either be a Rotel 5-channel or a 2-channel. I can spend $2000 for a 5-channel 200 watt amp which is about 330w at 4 ohms. Or, I can save $1000 and spend $1000 on a 2-channel equivalent (200w/330w), letting the receiver power the center and surrounds.

I have to believe the Yamaha will do a good job just driving the center and surrounds; I know they're 4 ohm speakers, and they're power hungry, but they're not towers. What do you guys think?

For what it's worth, I will also have the SVS PB-12 Plus/2 sub.

Thanks for any thoughts...

Brian

Is there a particular reason you are getting a receiver, instead of just getting the pre/pro and an outboard amplifier?

I want the Yamaha because I want all the bells and whistles - it's XM ready, it has an iPod dock, it's got an ethernet jack so I can stream music from my PC, it has HDMI upscaling to 720p/1080i, etc etc.

Did the Yamaha (RX-V1500) with LSi9's, and then Rotel 1080. After purchase Proceed AMP & PRE there was no looking back. Good luck, but I know what I would do.

Here is the reason you should get a 5 channel 200 wpc amplifier! You don't want to be in the situation that this guy is in!

Hey all, hope everyone is well (even the nut), I fianally connected a pair of LSI9's to a 120 W Denon and am so impresed with the results. I have a meager listening room in the city so large volume is not good for me...due to the neighbors. Connecting the 9's within 5 minutes I realized that I was not listening to music before. I put them on stereo, super audio, Beck, and found more in the tracks than with previous 5 channel. These speakers were in front of me and the music was behind me, aside me and AROUND me. My eyes right now are so wide open, great speakers. Ahhhh content!!! By the way, I picked these up on ebay for 6.

Thanks for the info however I don't think I need it. These 9's with the psw505 produce more sound than I need. SMILE
