Headunit selection

I am in the process of choosing a new headunit for my car. I am replacing a pioneer premier that i bought about 7 years ago. I have been very happy with it so was thinking about replacing it with another Pioneer. I have been told by a few people that they thought Pioneer was more worried about making a cosmetically appealing headunit rather than one that produced the best sound. Does anyone have an opinion on this or any recommendations on a good headunit for my explorer

Thanks

I don't know what that guy was talking about, but Pioneer's Premier HU's are very good for SQ. Especially the new 880PRS or whatever it is.

Alpine is a pretty good choice, though I'd personally look somewhere else. Where? Glad you asked! ;) I'm fond of Kenwood's eXcelon HU's, any of Eclipse's HU's, and Pioneer's Premier HU's.

how much are you looking to spend? IMO, Alpine has gone for the aeathetic/ipod generation moreso than pioneer.

If you have the money, Id highly suggest the 880PRS, best SQ deck under a grand, period

I agree with the Pioneer sentiments. Especially for the Premier line.

Alpine is still my favorite but their 06 offerings are lacking.

Clarion makes some nice stuff as well.

I highly recommend the Pioneer P880. Best combination I've seen of looks, performance, features, & price. I bought one a few months ago and absolutely love it.
