Hey, has anyone else found themsleves on Mapleshade Record's mailing list? Its some half audiophile music / half bizarre audiophile products store. The music looks really neat, as they have an ecclectic range of well recorded music, but I'm wondering what you guys think of some of their electronics performing products:
Triadd Cable Lifts. The premise is that your carpet creates some kind of back emf force on the signal. I guess if you assume that your carpet is extremely conductive, the changing current of your speaker wire could induce some interference...but wow.
From the catalog's free audio tips:
LIft all speaker, poer, and interconnect wires 8" off any non-wool carpet or plastic tile. Use string, wood, cardboard, or 20 ounce Sytrofoam cups of temporary props. You'll think you've pulled horse blankets off your speakers.
or CD treating products to enhance the physical dips in your CDs so your player can read them better.
So, this got me thinking. Even if these things don't work, the placebo effect IS scientifically documented. So, if placebo effect makes your audio sound 10% better to you, isn't that equivilant to several thousands of dollars of upgrades if you already have a high end system? should the placebo effect, in fact, be sought after? hmmm
