Help on decision

I have been going back and forth on which speakers to get. I just cant decide what speaker system to get. I need you opinions to influence my purchase please. I have been reading reviews on speakers on this site which are helpful but still cant close the deal. Ok so here are the options that I am up against. Without a doubt the sub will be the PB12-Plus/2. As for the speakers here are the options. Should I wait for the new svs system to come out? Or should I go with the system that has already been released? Or do you think the rti8's,csi5 and either fx5 or rti6 for the rear. This will be used in a medium sized livingroom till the house is built and a theater is built in the basement. I have a sony reciever now but within the next couple of months going with the denon 3806. So base your opinions on this reciever. I heard the 8's tonight at tweeter and the 10's. I actually liked the mids on the 8's better, and the bass a little better on the 10's. I am going to settle on the 8's now though. One more question and I will stop!!!Do you think getting speakers online or at tweeter would be my best option.

Seems like you've already decided.

If your system will be used primarily for HT, go for the 10's. You're fine with the 8's, though.

Another consideration is to get a less expensive receiver and use the savings to purchase a separate 2-channel amp to power your 8's or 10's.

I should of proof read my question first. I meant that I settled on the 8's as one of the options.

I've been waiting for the new SVS speakers to come out, but they keep pushing it up later and later(Sometime early to later 07).... I'm finally upgrading to LSi's I can't wait any longer.

I bought my RTi'8's online and NO problems. They come packaged very well. I actually received them from UPS without a mark on the box, imagine that?

While SVS is a known quantity for subs, I'm not sure I would be a purchaser of their regular speakers.

Get the 3806, the 8's, 5's & SVS sub. Plan on also getting a 2-5 channel separate amp when funds allow or the upgrade itch bites!

If you're as effed up as we are, your entire system is gonna change in 6 months.

Hell, just bypass the RTi series altogether and head straight to the Lsi's. You're gonna eventually do that anyways (unless, of course, you can't make up your mind.:p )

Thanks for the replies. Trust me I heard those lsi's tonight and loved them. To bad with building the house those are just a little to much right now. I can the rti's cheaper online but I wonder if I should pay a little more and buy them at tweeter. If I am going to have the upgrade bug than maybe their upgrade program would work out good. Thanks everyone for helping me look for a new system and already starting to think about upgrading!!!!:D

Consider getting the Lsi's and starting out with a 2-channel system with a sub, then fill in the rest of it over time. If I had to do it all over again, I would pursue that route.

hey i currently have a denon 2106 rti70 (rti8 predecessor) csi5 and rti6 and i have no complaints whatsoever. everyone is talking about getting a 5 channel amp or a 2 channel amp to give them more power but it already goes loud as **** and i cant its crystal clear i cant imagine it being worth 500 + dollars to hear a slight difference. call me stupid but i used to use a samson servo 550 and that could crank out like 220 watt/channel and i rarely used it that loud and my denon still matches its spl output roughly and i think it sounds better so if i were you id either get that rti setup you were saying and or get a lesser receiver or a pre/pro and then use a power amp to power your speakers. id say rti is the way to go if you dont want to explode your wallet just yet. id also buy online if you know what models you want, stores are almost always over prices except for frys when i got my rti70's for 159.99 a piece a few years back

Well I finally got the speakers. Went with the rti8s for the front. I got them a couple of weeks ago and have not had a lot of time to set them up. I was curious what are the best settings for them. Right now I have them set to small with a subwoofer. The whole sub thing is killing me right now. I got the pb12-plus/2 and cant even give it a little test. I cant really use it right now and just dont have the space. The poor thing is just sitting on the floor of my old bedroom at the parents. I was figuring out how big it would be by the measurments, but you guys are right, you dont know till you see it!!! Right now I have to settle for the psw10 that I got for free. I am not really impressed by the sub at all. You have to turn the gain up to much to even really hear it. By the way I think all the speakers are suffering from my reciever that I am using right now. It is a sony str-de845 that Ive had for a while now. I had a small problem with my other reciever that I dont even care to remind myself about. Thanks for any help on getting the best out of this system.

That's the same set-up I'm doing, including the receiver. I'm going with the SVS PB12NSD. I was all over the place with the speakers, but came back to the Polks. I looked at the NOS JBL Northridge E90s +++, but the centers have rear ports and it may seem like a stupid reason, but there's not much of a message board following with JBL. I spend way too much time online on 15 assorted audio sites, and the Polk site seemed to feel like home!! If I was rich like some of you guys, I'd buy a big M&K system!

The M&Ks are definitly hot! I went and demoed them and was blown away but they tend to be more price inhibitive. I am rocking matched Polk speakers with the Tri-Lam tweeter, and I couldn't be more happy. You can find good deals used on the 90's Polk equipment, but you have to be alittle patient. It took me a year to get all of the componets used that I have, but only cost me only $800 for the five speakers, subwoofer, the receiver and the amp! Whatever speaker line you want to go with, I'd just recommend to match it.
